West was released by the Colts on Saturday, John Breech of CBS Sports reports.

West had an abbreviated training camp with the Colts, having only originally signed with the team on Aug. 19, and was unable to crack a crowded running back depth chart. Marlon Mack, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins will likely be the trio handling the majority of Indianapolis' running game.

West rushed 13 times for 43 yards and a touchdown while catching all three of his targets for 27 yards in Saturday's 27-17 preseason loss to the Bears.

EDGE Analysis

West immediately got a chance to introduce himself to his new club with a heavy workload, and he probably did enough to put himself in position to make the roster given all the injuries to Indianapolis' other depth running backs. His touchdown came from 10 yards out in the first quarter.

The Colts will add some veteran depth after losing Spencer Ware (ankle) and D'Onta Foreman (undisclosed) to injuries. West doesn't offer much juice as a runner, but his experience and pass-game skills could allow him to push Jordan Wilkins (foot) and Jonathan Williams (rib) for the No. 3 job. For all their backfield injuries the past few weeks, the Colts at least have managed to keep the important players (Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines) healthy.

The Raiders brought in a pair of veteran backs (West and Robert Turbin) for an audition, looking to fill out the backfield ahead of the offseason program. West himself is coming off a campaign in which he was released by the Chiefs in August, spent one preseason game with the Jets before being a roster casualty on cut-down day, and returned to the Chiefs after Kareem Hunt was jettisoned. If West impresses Oakland's brass enough to earn a contract, he may have a difficult time landing on the final 53-man roster with Isaiah Crowell, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington all in the fold.

West finished Week 17 against the Raiders with one carry for a loss of two yards.

EDGE Analysis

Even in the midst of a blowout, West took the field for just 10 snaps and has played a total of 30 in the past three games combined. Regardless of whether Spencer Ware (hamstring) is ready for the playoff run, West is unlikely to make much of an impact with both Damien and Darryl Williams ahead of him on the depth chart. West finished his abbreviated regular season with the Chiefs owning just two carries for one yard and two catches for 37 yards and a touchdown on three targets.

West saw just one offensive and four special teams snaps during Thursday's game against the Chargers.

EDGE Analysis

West was inactive in Week 14 after signing with the Chiefs, but Spencer Ware's (hamstring) absence afforded him an opportunity to dress for the first time this season Thursday. Despite suiting up, West, appears to be well behind Damien and Darrel Williams in the pecking order for offensive snaps. He could fall even further off the radar if Ware is cleared to return in Week 16.

West is active for Thursday night's game against the Chargers, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.

EDGE Analysis

This will be the recently re-signed West's first game for the Chiefs this season, but he has ample experience in the team's offense, having been with Kansas City from the 2015 season through the 2017 campaign. Look for him to work in a complementary role Thursday behind Damien Williams, who is starting in place of Spencer Ware (hamstring).

After releasing Kareem Hunt last week, the Chiefs added West to the roster to shore up their backfield depth. West, who suited up in 49 regular-season contests for Kansas City over the past four seasons, won't need much time to get reacquainted with coach Andy Reid's scheme, but the veteran may represent more of an insurance policy than someone the Chiefs are counting on to contribute. Starter Spencer Ware and reserves Damien Williams and Darrel Williams will all dress Sunday while West remains in street clothes.

West owns career averages of 3.8 yards on 266 carries and 7.4 yards on 75 catches, while teammate Spencer Ware has produced 4.6 YPC and 11.5 YPR. The Chiefs also have 26-year-old Damien Williams and undrafted rookie Darrel Williams as options in the backfield.

West is expected to sign with the Chiefs this week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Chiefs apparently prefer West to C.J. Anderson, who also was brought in for a visit Monday. The team presumably will give Spencer Ware another shot in a lead role, but West's familiarity with the offense could make him an immediate option as a change-of-pace back or passing-down specialist. The team does also have Damien Williams and Darrel Williams in the backfield, so there's no guarantee West earns a significant role.
