West has been officially diagnosed with a concussion after exiting Sunday's contest and entering the protocol, Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
As a result of West's placement in the protocol, the Chiefs re-signed C.J. Spiller to add a veteran pass-catching presence out of the backfield. It's a short turn around for Kansas City this week with a Thursday night tilt ahead. If he's unable to gain clearance ahead of kickoff, expect Spiller and Akeem Hunt to spell starter Kareem Hunt against the Raiders.

West is being evaluated for a concussion during Sunday's game against the Steelers.
EDGE Analysis
Kareem Hunt continues to head the Chiefs' rushing attack Sunday, but next up for complementary looks in the team's backfield while West is banged up is Akeem Hunt.

West rushed once for one yard and caught two passes for 12 yards and two touchdowns Sunday against the Texans.
EDGE Analysis
West has seemingly carved out a role in the passing game for the Chiefs, but took the field for just 27 percent of the offense's snaps during Sunday's tilt. He's unlikely to have a large role moving forward, but could be rostered in deep leagues as a handcuff candidate.

West rushed once for two yards and caught five passes for 33 yards during Monday's victory over the Redskins.
EDGE Analysis
West didn't see a ton of run in the contest until late in the fourth quarter, but it's worth noting he was on the field for most of the team's two-minute drill. He remains a handcuff option behind Kareem Hunt, but it's unlikely there's much shift in workload moving forward.

West carried the ball just two times for a loss of a yard and caught two passes for 14 yards.
EDGE Analysis
West was only on the field for 14 snaps during the contest, cementing him well behind Kareem Hunt on the depth chart. He remains the direct backup to Hunt, however, and would likely take over in the backfield should Hunt suffer an injury.

West carried the ball just once in Thursday's regular-season opener against the Patriots, but he that tote went for 21 yards and a touchdown. He also added a catch on his only target of the night for four yards.
EDGE Analysis
As one of just two running backs currently on the Chiefs' roster, West would be the obvious candidate to replace Kareem Hunt in the backfield should he suffer an injury. However, it appears coach Andy Reid is comfortable allowing the rookie to take on a workhorse role for the team, limiting West to value mainly as a handcuff with upside if given an opportunity.

Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy suggested West, Spencer Ware and C.J. Spiller will all have roles in Thursday's regular-season openers against New England, ESPN.com's Adam Teicher reports. "These guys are all prepared," Nagy said. "They're all prepared to play. They all know they're a big part of this game plan."
EDGE Analysis
Head coach Andy Reid has made it clear Hunt will get the start and lead the backfield, but that doesn't necessarily mean the rookie will handle a typical starter's workload. Consider Spiller was released and then re-signed over the weekend, West should be locked in as the No. 2 back, with his role potentially including a good chunk of the passing-down snaps. Facing a formidable opponent on the road, the Chiefs may eventually be forced into a pass-heavy approach that works in West's favor.

West should see some regular-season reps out of the backfield with Spencer Ware (knee) sidelined indefinitely, Adam Teicher of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although Hunt will receive the majority of the club's carries with Ware out, coach Andy Reid suggested the other backs -- West and C.J. Spiller -- will rotate in as well. Prior to Ware's injury, West's foothold on a roster spot was rather shaky. That outlook has likely changed at this point, with both he and Spiller now expected to make it.

West ran three times for a lost yard and caught three passes for nine yards in Friday's preseason loss to Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
It was a crash back to earth for West, who slashed and dashed Cincinnati just a week earlier. After posting 1,329 total yards over the past two seasons in a supporting role, West's offseason has been a little disappointing with injuries and rookie Kareem Hunt climbing up the depth chart. If the knee injury suffered by Spencer Ware is serious, however, then all of the Chiefs' backs are bumped up a slot and all of a sudden West is back to his old role as key reserve and weapon in the passing game.

West rushed for 113 yards on seven carries -- including a game-high 50-yard run -- during Saturday's preseason win over Cincinnati.
EDGE Analysis
West is battling to hold off rookie Kareem Hunt and first-year Chief C.J. Spiller, so this was a strong outing for the third-year running back. However, it's worth noting that West broke his 50-yard run in the fourth quarter when the Cincinnati starters were out of the game. Additionally, Hunt impressed against the Bengals' first-team defense. Still, West projects to have a role in the rushing attack to open the season. It just might not be a large enough one to provide reliable fantasy numbers.
