Free agent DT Anthony Adams has retired from football. Adams was a second-round pick of the 49ers, and played four seasons with the team. He spent his final five seasons with the Bears, last appearing in 2011.

Bears released DT Anthony Adams. The move clears $1.9 million in salary. Adams, a veteran nose tackle who will turn 32 before the season, fell out of the Bears' rotation last year, appearing in 11 games but only two of the final six. He had 16 tackles and no sacks. Adams was once one of the more underrated run-stopping 4-3 defensive tackles in football, but his career may be through after nine NFL seasons.

Bears NT Anthony Adams practiced fully Thursday for the first time since straining his left calf early in training camp. Backup Matt Toeaina worked as the first-team nose tackle for three weeks while Adams was sidelined, and will likely get the starting nod for one more week. Adams should regain the job once he's back in game shape.

Bears NT Anthony Adams is in danger of missing multiple weeks of camp with a left calf injury. Adams is currently in a boot, and the Chicago Tribune reports that he may not participate in any practices until the Bears break camp in Bourbonnais. This could give Matt Toeania the leg up on the starting nose tackle job for now, though it should be Adams' when he's healthy. Henry Melton is the starting "under tackle." Stephen Paea is nursing swelling in his knee.

Before the lockout, free agent DT Anthony Adams was offered a deal similar to Matt Toeaina's three-year, $6 million contract. The Bears realize they're going to have to sweeten the pot to keep Adams from flying the coop. "I'm not expecting some blockbuster-type deal," said Adams. "Just what I'm worth." Adams' preference is to return to the Chicago.

One NFC personnel executive expects free agent DT Anthony Adams to draw interest from "several" teams because of his willingness to play nose tackle. Adams reiterated that he "loves" playing for the Bears and "hopes" to be back in Chicago, but he doesn't want to be naive if the team has other plans. Last we heard, the Bears considered Adams a top priority for free agency. A re-signing still seems likely to happen.
