Forget about March Madness as the NFL has already staked it’s claim to this month with a frenzied start to free agency. Players are moving from team to team quicker than green beer will flow on St. Patty’s day. A week into free agency and it feels like we may have a minute to catch our breath before the wave of second-tier signings kick into high gear. Here is a quick-hitting look at some of the IDP signings so far that will most affect the fantasy football landscape in 2015. No, I am not addressing every single signing to date because not every single signing merits analysis. For the most part, if you don’t see a name covered here it means I don’t see his value going up or down enough on his new team to warrant addressing. Some of that may change as schemes and positions become solidified but as of now these are the signings that make me some…hmmmm. Ndamukong Suh, DT, MIAMI: The Dolphins landed the biggest fish in free agency (see what I did there) even if took a little extra time to get finalized. Suh remains an elite DT option for fantasy purposes and immediately raises the stock of both Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon. Kiko Alonso, ILB, PHILADELPHIA: As long as the knee checks out, the kid will definitely improve the Eagles defense. The presence of DeMeco Ryans could eat into his tackle totals so I'm not convinced that his fantasy stock goes up at all. Curtis Lofton, ILB, OAKLAND: Lofton may not be an upper echelon (or even middle echelon for that matter) NFL linebacker but he consistently puts up triple-digit tackle numbers. Yeah, we like that for fantasy purposes on a defense that figures to be on the filed a lot. Tramon Williams, CB, CLEVELAND: Williams should get tested a lot playing opposite Joe Haden and that should translate into some decent fantasy production. He has posted three or more interceptions in six of his last seven seasons. Sean Weatherspoon, ILB, ARIZONA: Don’t sleep on ‘Spoon’ this season as he figures to slot into Larry Foote’s role. Foote put up 84 total tackles last season and is 137 years old. Brandon Browner, CB, NEW ORLEANS: Unless your league awards points for penalties or suspensions, Browner is best left alone on fantasy draft day. He had six interceptions back in 2011 and has totaled five...

As the Saints put the finishing touches on the Packers weare down to one last game in Week 8. TheCowboys should put the week to rest by rolling over a Colt McCoy-led Washington offense. This week we saw two teams put up 50 points and numerousquarterbacks have outstanding days. Or, in BenRoethlisberger's case a career day. All-in-all a very exciting weekend of football with somelast minute heroics and gut-wrenching losses (I'm looking at you Atlanta). Here are some things that caught my eye this week This is the RonnieHillman that broke Marshall Faulk's recordsat San Diego State. The Montee Ball erawas fun while it lasted. OK. Actually, it really wasn't all that fun. I get the feeling that EricDecker is sitting somewhere watching the Broncos offense and saying, "Yeah, those were the days." Then he looks at his Jets team roster and sighs wistfully... The ‘other' BrandonMarshall continues to come up big for IDP owners. Keep riding this kid on aweekly basis. I like the way this CoreyFuller kid looks in the Lions offense. He has been a big part in pluggingthe huge hole left by Calvin Johnson's absence. Superb catch by TheoRiddick to help setup the game winning field goal. Looks like Detroit has the replacement for Reggie Bush securely in place. That is going to be one long flight home for Atlanta. At least folks that were forced to start Steven Jackson are happy. Or, as happyas people who were forced to start Jackson could be. Hey there RobertQuinn! Welcome to the 2014 fantasy football season. Better late than never. Let's stay in the IDP realm for a minute here as we like Akeem Ayers as a Patriot movingforward. He is a sneaky good edge rushing big-play option moving forward. So, we have to have seen the last of Geno Smith as the starter in New York. Haven't we? I'm guessing that owners who dropped Tom Brady are kicking themselves pretty hard these days.Repeatedly. So, we have a Denver at New England matchup this week, eh? This latest Manningvs. Brady is going to be fun and full of fantasy points. I'm guessing that Lovie Smith wished he'd taken one moreyear off right about now. Speaking of taking things off, there is no reason for Doug Martin to be on fantasy rostersanymore. He's ineffective and hurt again (ankle). Only dehydration could stop Rob Gronkowski this week. The Bears defense couldn't stop anything. I've come to realize that I can not predict what Ben Roethlisberger is going to do fromweek-to-week. I'm guessing Mike ...

IDP Waiver Wire - Week 6 fantasysharks.com Tue 10/8/13 9:06 AM

There's an old adage in fantasy football: "No one cares about your fantasy team but you." It's mostly true, but I'm making a point here, so bear with me. In the Deathmatch IDP Showcase League here at Fantasy Sharks, my team (the aptly named "Suckville Sucknados") has an all-play record of over .500. However, through a combination of bad lineup decisions and even worse luck, that team entered Monday night's contest between the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons needing help to avoid an 0-5 start. The same went for my team in The WALL, an IDP-only league where I am 1-4 to begin the season. Is this incredibly frustrating? You bet. Are either of those teams making the playoffs? Probably not. Will I be among the first teams submitting waiver claims this week? Of course. Improbable turnarounds are possible. Even if they aren't, you owe it to your leaguemates (and yourself) to continue doing everything in your power to win each week. Anything less is just bad juju. So, whether you're chugging along or grasping at straws, here's a look at some Individual Defensive Players who can help your team in Week 6. PICKUP OF THE WEEK A.J. Hawk -- ILB, Green Bay Packers Hawk's nine total tackles against the Detroit Lions in Week 5 is only part of the reason why the eighth-year veteran is the Week 6 IDP PoTW. The bigger reason is the hamstring injury suffered by batterymate Brad Jones. If Jones is unable to take the field this week against the Baltimore Ravens (a very real possibility), that will leave Hawk as an every-down player and the defensive signal-caller in a top-five IDP matchup for linebackers. If you have a hole at the position or are in a bye-week crunch, Hawk's the pick of the litter where one-week matchup fantasy plays are concerned. WEEK 6 WAIVER WIRE PICKUPS Bruce Irvin -- DE/OLB, Seattle Seahawks After sitting out the first four games of the 2013 season due to a league-mandated suspension, Irvin returned to action in last week's loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Irvin didn't waste any time getting back into the swing of things, logging four tackles and a sack in just under 60 percent of Seattle's defensive snaps. Even better, many fantasy providers have Irvin listed as DE-eligible. With his snap count sure to grow over the next several weeks, the second-year pro is a solid addition for IDP teams looking for pass-rush help. Ahtyba Rubin -- DE, Cleveland Browns Rubin missed the first two games of the 2013 season, but with every game since Rubin's ...

IDP Waiver Wire: Week 3 fantasysharks.com Tue 9/18/12 9:06 AM

Week 2 of the 2012 NFL season is in the books, and while Individual Defensive Player (IDP) studs such as linebacker Daryl Washington of the Arizona Cardinals continue piling up the numbers, we're still waiting on the first sack of the season from Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, and prominent IDPs such as Baltimore Ravens' strong safety Bernard Pollard were felled by injuries last week. As I said last week, it's still awfully early to be dropping underperforming stars in all but the shallowest of IDP leagues, but if you're playing in a bit deeper format and either have a hole in your lineup due to injuries or are just looking to shore up your depth, here's a look at some of Week 2's top IDP pickups. PICKUP OF THE WEEK Jerrell Freeman, ILB, Indianapolis: For the second straight week, Freeman, who led the Canadian Football League in tackles in 2011, had a solid game after being pressed into action by the preseason foot injury suffered by Pat Angerer. The 26-year-old racked up 13 total tackles and forced a fumble in the win over the Minnesota Vikings, and while it's possible that Angerer's return (likely in Week 5) could send Freeman back to a reserve role and this week's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars is a weak one from a fantasy perspective, the Colts are going to have an awfully hard time sitting Freeman given how he's played. Tyson Alualu, DT, Jacksonville: This recommendation may be geared a bit more towards IDP leagues that require defensive tackles, but if Alualu can keep this level of play up he's going to have value in "standard" formats as well. The third-year pro followed up four tackles and a sack in Week 1 with six solos in the loss to the San Diego Chargers, and with Jacksonville's defense set to be on the field a ton against teams playing with leads, Alualu should be in line for plenty of garbage time tackle opportunities. Cameron Jordan, DE, New Orleans: The New Orleans Saints are reeling at 0-2, and while their defense is largely to blame for their slow start, one of the pleasant surprises from a fantasy perspective has been the play of second-year defensive end Cameron Jordan. The former Cal standout had 11 stops in Week 1 and followed that up with four total tackles and a sack against the Carolina Panthers, and with a favorable matchup on tap against the Kansas City Chiefs, Jordan is certainly worth a look from IDP squads with a hole on the defensive front. Akeem Ayers , SLB, Tennessee: The ankle injury suffered...
