Astros manager A.J. Hinch announced Wednesday that Feldman will start the second game of the season against the Indians on April 8, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.

"Feldman's lined up to pitch right behind Keuchel, which is good," Hinch said. "I caution lining it too perfectly too early just because a lot of things can happen, but Keuchel one, Feldman two is a good lineup." The veteran right-hander has a 7.20 ERA through five spring innings thus far.

The rest of the team is off Wednesday, but it looks as though Feldman will get some extra work in with the minor league club. He's a candidate to start Opening Day after posting a 3.74 ERA in 29 starts last season.

Feldman allowed one run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts over two innings Sunday in his 2015 Grapefruit League debut against the Braves.

Feldman started Opening Day for the Astros last season and went 8-12 with 3.74 ERA in 29 starts for the team. When asked about starting Opening Day again, the veteran right-hander said, "I think the thing that matters to me is starting a game in the postseason. I think that would be awesome, but as far as Opening Day, I think we've got a bunch of guys that had good years last year and that's really just in the hands of A.J. (Hinch) and the staff." Feldman is scheduled to make his next spring appearance Friday against the Nationals.

Feldman took the loss Wednesday after permitting only one run on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts over six innings against the Rangers.

Feldman, who signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Astros last December, went 8-12 with a 3.74 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 107:50 K:BB over 180.1 innings in his first year with the team.

Feldman allowed one run on four hits and a walk over eight innings Thursday against Cleveland, but struck out just two and didn't receive a decision.

While Feldman missed even fewer bats than usual in this game, he continues to generate a lot of ground balls and pitch efficiently, having gone eight or more innings thrice in his last five starts. He's scheduled to take on the Rangers on Wednesday.

Feldman allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts over 8.1 innings Saturday, but took no decision against the A's.

Feldman (8-10) pitched into the ninth inning for the second straight start, but gave up a couple of hits before Oakland rallied for a 4-3 win off Astros closer Chad Qualls. Feldman will carry a 3.99 ERA into his next scheduled start on Saturday against the Angels.

Feldman pitched a complete game three-hit shutout of the Rangers on Saturday, striking out five while walking only one for his eighth win of the season.

Feldman (8-10) stifled his former team for the second shutout of his career. However, the veteran right-hander has a 4.66 ERA in three starts this season against his next opponent Oakland.

Feldman took the loss Monday against the A's, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over seven innings.

Feldman (7-10) certainly pitched well enough to win the game, but the Astros' offense fell flat against Jeff Samardzija and the Athletics. The veteran right-hander will carry a 4.34 ERA into his next scheduled start against the Rangers on Saturday. Feldman is 1-0 with a 3.44 ERA in three starts against his former team this season.

Feldman limited the Yankees to two runs on eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over 6.2 innings to earn his seventh win of the season on Wednesday.

Feldman's seven strikeouts were a season high. In 23 starts with the Astros this season, the veteran right-hander is 7-9 with a 4.37 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 78:42 K:BB through 136 innings. He lines up for a home start against Oakland on Monday.

Feldman was tagged for seven runs on nine hits and two walks with one strikeout over 5.1 innings in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox.

Feldman, who cruised through five innings having allowed just one run and four hits, snowballed in the sixth inning and fell to 6-9 this season with the loss. The 31-year-old veteran will carry a 4.45 ERA into his next scheduled start against the Yankees on Wednesday.
