Joel Hanrahan is dealing with tightness in his right forearm. The reliever will be re-evaluated Tuesday, but it seems likely that he'll wind up on the disabled list. With Andrew Bailey (biceps) also on the shelf, Koji Uehara could handle the ninth inning for the Red Sox for a while.

Joel Hanrahan left Monday's game against the Twins with an apparent injury. It's not clear if he aggravated his hamstring injury or if something else is wrong. Hanrahan struggled in the outing before the injury, serving up a game-tying homer and walking a batter before being removed. The Red Sox should update his status after the game. Fantasy owners will want to go out and grab Koji Uehara just in case.

Joel Hanrahan will close for the Red Sox with Andrew Bailey (biceps) on the disabled list. Hanrahan had already been closing for the past week with Bailey unavailable. With his injury backdated to April 29, Bailey will be eligible to return as early as next week, but weekly-league owners should be able to squeeze at least two weeks of stopper-duties out of Hanrahan. The former Pirate could easily keep the role once he was acquired for if he pitches well in Bailey's absence.

With Andrew Bailey apparently unavailable, Joel Hanrahan earned his fourth save Thursday against the Blue Jays. Hanrahan gave up a single in a 3-1 game before getting a double play to finish it. The Red Sox announced that they'd use Hanrahan in a setup role for now after activating him Tuesday, but that changed after just one appearance, perhaps because of an injury to Bailey.

Red Sox activated RHP Joel Hanrahan from the 15-day disabled list. Hanrahan allowed two runs in one inning in his first rehab appearance last week, but he bounced back Sunday with a scoreless inning. That was apparently enough to convince the Red Sox that he was ready to return. While there has been some speculation that he would get the closer role back, Red Sox manager John Farrell indicated during an appearance on MLB Network Radio on Tuesday that Andrew Bailey will keep the job.

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe writes that "it is expected" that Joel Hanrahan (hamstring) will return to the ninth inning when he is activated from the disabled list. Andrew Bailey has converted five of six save chances since Hanrahan went on the DL and has looked dominant of late, but it appears that Hanrahan will get his job back. He'll need to perform, though, in order to hold Bailey off. Hanrahan is expected to be activated from the DL on Tuesday.

Joel Hanrahan (hamstring) will make another rehab appearance with Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday, then hopes to return to the Red Sox bullpen for Tuesday's series opener against the Blue Jays. Hanrahan has adjusted his mechanics during his rehab stint, and reiterated Saturday that he no longer had any hamstring problems. It's unclear how Red Sox skipper John Farrell will handle the closer's role upon Hanrahan's return, but with Andrew Bailey pitching well in the role, he could have a tough decision on his hands.

Joel Hanrahan (hamstring) surrendered a two-run homer during his first rehab outing with Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday. Hanrahan should only need a couple of rehab outings before he's deemed ready to return to the Red Sox bullpen. With Andrew Bailey pitching extremely well in the closer's role though, manager John Farrell looks he he could be faced with a very difficult decision shortly.

Joel Hanrahan (hamstring) threw off a mound Monday for the first time since hitting the disabled list. Hanrahan experienced renewed soreness last week after trying to throw on flat ground but felt fine after Monday's mound workout. He will throw another bullpen session on Wednesday and could embark on a minor league rehab assignment Friday. Andrew Bailey is serving as Boston's ninth-inning man for now.
