Over five appearances this spring, Teaford posted a 2.79 ERA in 9.2 innings of work.

He may be the greatest long shot for the opportunity, as the alternatives all possess 40-man roster spots, while Teaford is in camp with the Rays on a minor league deal. Most likely, Burch Smith, Matt Andriese, and Enny Romero will cover two of the vacant spots created by the ailments to Drew Smyly, Alex Cobb, and Alex Colome to open the year.

Teaford signed a minor-league contract with the Rays on Friday, according to the pitcher's agency. Teaford spent 2014 in the hitter-friendly KBO, submitting a 5.24 ERA over 99.2 innings with the LG Twins. He previously logged MLB appearances with the Royals from 2011 to 2013, but never enjoyed much sustained success in any of those trials.
