He's made only five appearances at the big-league level over the past two seasons, and at this stage in his career, the Royals may view him exclusively as a reliever. Peacock's deal likely includes an invitation to big-league spring training, but he'll still presumably be on the outside looking in for a spot on the Royals' Opening Day roster.

Peacock was promoted to the big leagues Sunday prior to the series finale against the White Sox, but he failed to take the mound and will not head back to the minors. He's appeared twice for Boston in 2021, surrendering nine runs on six hits while fanning three across 5.1 innings.

The Red Sox recalled Peacock from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

It's unclear if Peacock will continue to work in relief the rest of the week, as the team will have a need for a fifth starter Sept. 14 in Seattle after Nick Pivetta was forced to the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday following his positive test.

Peacock (0-1) allowed five runs on two hits and two walks over 2.1 innings, taking the loss in a defeat at the hands of the Rays on Tuesday.

Peacock was making his first start in the majors since June of 2019 and it did not go well for him. He had a quick 1-2-3 inning on just seven pitches to open up the game but then served up a solo home run to Randy Arozarena in the second. Things really went south for him in the third after he allowed four of the first five batters he faced to reach and two to score before he was pulled from the game. Peacock would end up being charged for two additional runs before his night was all said and done. Tuesday's start will likely be the only one of the season for the 33-year-old, as he figures to be sent back down to Triple-A Worchester ahead of Wednesday's game.
