Ramos (shoulder) could be out for up to a year and a half, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.

With Ramos shifting to the 60-day DL, he will be removed from the 40-man roster, making room for Drew Smith and Kevin Kaczmarski on the big-league club. In addition, Hansel Robles was designated for assignment.

Ramos has been sidelined since late May with what was being called a right shoulder strain, but the team has now revealed that the reliever is dealing with a much more serious injury. He'll end the year with a 6.41 ERA over 19.2 innings with the Mets. He's set to become a free agent this offseason.

"We certainly don't expect him back anytime soon," general manager Sandy Alderson said.

Ramos walked the only two batters he faced Friday, bringing home the winning run in a 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Brewers.

EDGE Analysis

Only one of the nine pitches Ramos threw in the 10th inning found the strike zone, and his final offering to Travis Shaw didn't even travel 60 feet. The veteran reliever is in a major funk right now, giving up five runs and posting a 5:5 K:BB over his last five appearances, and his 5.21 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 6.6 BB/9 on the season make him tough for either the Mets, or fantasy GMs, to trust.

Ramos served up a two-run home run to Derek Dietrich in the eighth inning of Tuesday's loss to the Marlins.

The right-hander is enduring a brutal May, posting a 7.27 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB in 8.2 innings. While the K:BB is encouraging, Ramos' struggles may have cost him his spot as the Mets' main alternative to Jeurys Familia in closing situations, as Robert Gsellman and not Ramos picked up the save Sunday with Familia unavailable.

Ramos struck out two in a perfect ninth inning during Friday's extra-inning win over the Braves.

EDGE Analysis

The right-hander's control has been shaky through the early part of the season, leading to a 7:7 K:BB in 8.2 innings, but Ramos has allowed only two hits to maintain a strong 2.08 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. The Mets' success so far has also provided him with a win and five holds, giving him solid fantasy value in formats that count the latter, and Ramos remains the most likely alternative for saves on nights Jeurys Familia is unavailable.

Ramos has a 5.40 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB through 8.1 innings this spring.

EDGE Analysis

The ERA and WHIP don't mean much given the sample size, and the walks are no surprise as control has never been Ramos' strong suit. The 31-year-old is still set to serve as Jeurys Familia's primary setup man -- and the primary option to replace him in the ninth inning if Familia's arm issues linger into the regular season.
