After showcasing a bundle of promise with AHL Calgary this season, Stromgren will join the NHL club for the first time. He was selected 45th overall by the Flames in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and has steadily improved his point production in each of the three full seasons he has played with the AHL club. Through 33 games this year, the 22-year-old winger has six goals, 23 assists, a plus-13 rating and a 17.1 shooting percentage. He'll look to spark Calgary's offense, which currently ranks 27th in the league with 2.66 goals per game this season, but his playing time with the NHL club may not be as consistent as it has been in the AHL.

Stromgren has three goals and nine assists over 13 contests this season. The winger is doing all he can to earn his first NHL call-up, collecting five goals and 21 assists over 30 appearances for the Wranglers this year. The 22-year-old is still a little raw, but he could see NHL action later in the campaign if the team sells off some veterans prior to the trade deadline.

Stromgren had primary helpers on the Wranglers' last three goals in the comeback win. He's now eight games removed from his last goal, but he has six assists in that span. The 22-year-old has elevated his game this season, earning 20 points (two goals, 18 helpers) over 25 appearances while adding a plus-12 rating. He was regarded more for his shot as a younger prospect but has leaned into playmaking since he reached the AHL, so the Flames may be waiting for his game to round out before he gets a call-up.

The goal was Stromgren's first of the season. Other than a lack of goals, the winger has been pretty good with 12 points over 15 outings. He showed some promise with 14 goals and 49 points over 70 regular-season outings a year ago. Stromgren is a second-round pick from 2021 and signed his entry-level deal in 2023, so he's in a contract year this season. He's shown enough playmaking potential to stick in the Flames' long-term plans.

EDGE Analysis

Stromgren is set to report to AHL Calgary for the remainder of this season, while his ELC will begin in 2023-24. The 19-year-old winger posted six points over two games in the Swedish junior league, but he struggled with eight points in 45 contests with Brynas IF in the SHL. Nonetheless, he's set to get a look in North America going forward.

EDGE Analysis

One of the biggest risers in the entire draft over the past many months, the attraction surrounding Stromgren is the size/skill combination -- 6-foot-3 wingers with speed and physicality are exceedingly difficult to find. Stromgren played for four different teams this season, in addition to suiting up for his native Sweden at the World U18's. He's more of a sniper than playmaker, although Stromgren is adept at finding his teammates and making creative plays in the offensive zone. There is a boatload of potential here and it wouldn't have been the least bit surprising had Stromgren been selected in the final stages of Round 1. Nice job by the Flames.
