After suffering his first NHL loss, Viktor Fasth improved his record to 9-1-0 on Wednesday. He stopped 20 out of 21 shots as the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Nashville Predators 5-1. Fasth might need to fight off Jonas Hiller at times going forward, but it's tough to argue against the notion that he's the guy right now in net.

Viktor Fasth is projected to get the nod on Wednesday night when the Ducks host Nashville. He lost his first NHL game Monday night against Los Angeles after going victorious in his previous eight appearances. Fasth has been very good between the pipes for Anaheim and he should continue to share starts with Jonas Hiller for the rest of the year.

Viktor Fasth allowed four goals on 24 shots in the Ducks 5-2 loss to the LA Kings. It was bound to happen sometime, and it just so happened to be against the defending champs. Despite their scoring woes, he was in tough against such a talented line-up. The sample size is big enough to show that he's a legitimate talent, and the Ducks believe that too, based on the two year extension he just received. He is outperforming Hiller so keep starting him when you can, as he is clearly the better goalie in Anaheim right now.

Viktor Fasth has been rewarded with a two-year extension from the Anaheim Ducks. The 30-year-old "rookie" has opened his NHL career with a perfect 8-0-0 record, a .933 save percentage and a 1.78 goals-against average in nine appearances. "Viktor has proven himself not only this year in the NHL but the previous two seasons as the top goaltender in Sweden," GM Bob Murray said in a statement. "We are pleased to be able to keep him and feel fortunate to have two top NHL goaltenders going forward." He should continue to share time with Jonas Hiller in Anaheim's crease for the remainder of the year.

Viktor Fasth earned the NHL's second star of the week. Fasth allowed six goals over three victories last week. Two of those contests were decided in shootouts. Fasth is just the third goaltender in the history of the league to start his career with eight straight victories.

Viktor Fasth has tied an NHL record for the most consecutive victories to start his NHL career. Fasth has a 1.78 GAA and .933 save percentage while winning his first eight starts. "It's the team effort that counts," Fasth said. "I'm not going to stand here and just talk about myself. I mean, it's a team sport. If the guys don't play good in front of me, I can't play good. And the other way around. It's a team game." His hot start combined with Jonas Hiller's pre-injury struggles make Fasth a serious candidate to steal the Ducks' starting gig.

Viktor Fasth turned aside 32 of 34 shots in regulation in Anaheim's 3-2 shootout win Saturday night. Fasth allowed one goal on three shootout attempts. He's now 8-0-0 and is making a strong argument for keeping the starting job even after Jonas Hiller returns from a lower body injury.

Don't be surprised if Viktor Fasth starts on Saturday. Fasth turned aside 26 of 28 shots on Friday and Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau isn't afraid to use him in back-to-back contests. "And he went back-to-back in Norfolk his first week," Boudreau said, referring to Fasth's time in the minors. "I was a little worried about him. I offered to give him the day off on Wednesday and he didn't want it. I assume, if necessary, that he can do it again."

Viktor Fasth made 26 saves in Anaheim's 5-2 win over the Red Wings on Friday night. Even when Jonas Hiller is ready to play, Viktor Fasth has shown that he's ready to handle much more than just back-up duty. In fact, he's probably a good bet to wrestle away the job, for at least the time being. The 30-year-old NHL rookie has yet to lose this season: He's 7-0-0 with a 1.78 goals-against average and .932 save percentage on the year.
