Tyler Toffoli scored twice and added an assist as the Kings rolled over the Canucks on Saturday night 5-1. Toffoli, who has 14 games of NHL experience, didn't make the opening-night roster, but he had 12 points in 10 AHL games. The 21-year-old has played very well in the three games since his call up (all this month), earning points in all of them. The three points Saturday boosted his season output to five. Toffoli was on the ice for 17:29, got four shots on a goal and finished with a plus-three rating. Mike Richards also had a three-point night with a goal and two helpers, and he's now notched points in four straight, good for 16 on the year. Justin Williams scored the other goal, as Dwight King picked up two assists.

Tyler Toffoli has been summoned by the Los Angeles Kings. Toffoli's failure to make the Kings' opening game roster came as a bit of a surprise. He's made the best of a bad situation though by scoring seven goals and 12 points in 10 AHL contests.

The Los Angeles Kings opted to send winger Tyler Toffoli to the minors on Sunday. This is more than a slight surprise, as Toffoli even earned some top-line time when Dustin Brown was injured during the preseason. You'd think he made enough of an impression to get more than a cup of coffee, but that it appears not to be the case, at least for now.

Tyler Toffoli skated on the Los Angeles' Kings top line in a scrimmage Saturday, taking the place of injured Dustin Brown alongside Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams. The slight injury Brown suffered during an on-ice drill Thursday is located in his hamstring and shouldn't have a major impact in preparations for the season, coach Darryl Sutter told LA Kings Insider. "We're just going to be careful with [Brown]," Sutter said. "It's not very often a hockey player other than a goalie has a hamstring [injury], so I just want to be careful with him. ... Just make sure he's getting ready for the end of camp."

Tyler Toffoli isn't a lock to make the Los Angeles Kings' roster out of training camp, according to coach Darryl Sutter. That's not surprising, but the odds are heavily stacked in Toffoli's favor. He had 28 goals and 51 points in 58 AHL games last season and another five points in 10 contests with the Los Angeles Kings. He also held his own during the Kings playoffs run and is projected to be one of the NHL's top rookies in 2013-14.

Although Coach Darryl Sutter said last season he wanted right wing Tyler Toffoli to be prepared to play left wing this season in order to boost the team's scoring from that side, Sutter seems to have had a change of heart. He might now leave Toffoli alone rather than complicate the gifted scorer's thinking processes. He might now leave Toffoli alone rather than complicate the gifted scorer's thinking processes. "I don't want to set Tyler back. That's my thinking," Sutter said Friday. "I'm not going to spend a lot of time. If he's way better on the right than he is on the left, that's the best chance. I'm really cautious about that one, because he's never played it and he's a good player. We'll see. He's done a lot with it this summer. Quite honestly I haven't put a whole lot into that."

Tyler Toffoli may get a better chance to playing in Los Angeles' top-six forward group if he can adapt to playing left wing. Toffoli said the decision is up to the team and he'll play wherever he's needed. Coach Darryl Sutter wasn't prepared to commit to anything. "Plan is to get him stronger first. Then see if he's a good winger in the American Hockey League or a winger in the National Hockey League," Sutter said. "That will be the first step." Sutter wants to see if Toffoli can handle playing a full 82-game schedule, so look for 21-year-old to try to bulk up over the summer. Toffoli feels like he's up for the challenge.

Justin Williams had nothing but praise for Tyler Toffoli after Sunday's Game 2. Toffoli jumped up to the Kings' second line with Mike Richards (upper body) out of the lineup and had a goal and an assist playing with Williams and Jeff Carter. "I think Tyler is going to be a phenomenal NHL player, for a long time," Williams said Sunday night. Toffoli has two goals and four points in nine games this postseason, which is nearly identical to his regular-season performance of two goals and five points in 10 games. If Richards is out for Tuesday's Game 3, it's highly possible Toffoli will find himself with Carter and Williams again.

Kings forward Tyler Toffoli scored a goal and added an assist for the Kings in a 4-2 loss to Chicago in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals Sunday. Toffoli drew an assist on Jeff Carter's sixth tally of the playoffs then scored his second of the postseason in the game's dying minutes. This contest's result was well in hand by the time the Kings started scoring, but that doesn't make Toffoli's performance any less impressive.

Tyler Toffoli will dress in Game 7 after being a healthy scratch in Game 6. He will take the spot of Jordan Nolan in the lineup. Toffoli has one goal and one assist in seven playoff games.
