Bunz wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by the Oilers on Monday, meaning he'll become an unrestricted free agent, Jason Gregor of the Edmonton Journal reports. Bunz was promoted to the Oilers last April when injuries compromised the team's goalie depth, but he only made one appearance with the big club and wasn't viewed as an integral part of the team's future. The 23-year-old, who spent most of this past season with the ECHL's Wichita Thunder, doesn't look to be anything more than minor-league depth for any organization.

The Oilers assigned Bunz to AHL Oklahoma City on Sunday. In his NHL debut in relief of Ben Scrivens on Thursday, Bunz -- who has seen the bulk of his action this season at the ECHL level -- gave up three goals on 12 shots in the Oilers' 8-2 loss to the Kings.

Bunz made his NHL debut in relief Thursday, giving up three goals on 12 shots in an 8-1 loss to the Kings. With normal backup Richard Bachman (personal) away from the team, came on for an ineffective Ben Scrivens and was no more effective himself. Bunz has not proven himself to be particularly NHL-ready in the minors, so there's nothing to see here from a fantasy perspective. You wouldn't even want him in your fantasy ECHL league, if such a thing were to exist.

Bunz was recalled from AHL Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal reports. With Richard Bachman suddenly leaving the Oilers following a death in the family, Bunz was summoned from the minors to serve as the backup to Ben Scrivens for Wednesday's match with the Ducks. The 23-year-old Bunz has spent much of the season in the ECHL ranks, where he's posted a 2.97 GAA and .890 save percentage. Bunz is strictly an emergency option behind Scrivens while Bachman remains away from the team, so don't expect him to see the ice during his stint with the Oilers.

Tyler Bunz is trying to bounce back from a rough season with the ECHL Stockton Thunder. The Oilers have signed Randy Bachman, who is expected to be the team's third-string goaltender and start the season in the AHL Oklahoma. "I can only control what I do and this camp is good for that. It gets me back into game shape, then whatever happens next year, happens," Bunz said. "Just because they signed another goalie doesn't mean I'm going to give up. It doesn't mean I'm not going to work for that spot in Oklahoma. I want to be there, so I'm going to do everything in my power to hopefully change the minds of the coaches. I don't think I gave them a lot of reason to trust me with the season I had, but it could all be forgotten if I have a good start at camp." Bunz had a 3.35 GAA and .886 save percentage in 37 games last season.

The Oklahoma City Barons have sent Edmonton Oilers goaltending prospect Tyler Bunz to the Stockton Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League. The organization would like Bunz to see significant action as part of his development plan, but the presence of Yann Danis in Oklahoma City wasn't going to allow that so the former Medicine Hat Tiger will suit up in the ECHL. He'll likely be one of the better netminders in that league and could find himself back in the AHL later this season.

The Edmonton Oilers signed goaltending prospect Tyler Bunz to a three-year, entry-level contract on Monday. The former fifth-round pick of the Oilers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft is gearing up for the WHL playoffs, where his Medicine Hat Tigers are set to play the Saskatoon Blades on Friday. Bunz posted a 39-17-5 record with a 2.57 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage during the 2011-12 regular season.

The Edmonton Oilers have returned Tyler Bunz to the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers. Bunz had a 2.47 GAA and .919 save percentage in 56 WHL games last season. He's one of the first players cut by the Oilers, but he might get a longer look next year.
