Gleason (elbow) will take the pre game warmup in Winnipeg on Saturday and will be a game-time decision, Mike Vogel of Monumental Network reports. Gleason missed Thursday's contest against the Wild with the ailment and may be held out of the lineup as a precaution, as a healthy Nate Schmidt helps mitigate the need to play the rugged defenseman, acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes just prior to the trade deadline earlier in March, on a nightly basis. Even in the lineup, Gleason's lack of offensive production renders him largely irrelevant outside of very deep leagues that count peripheral statistics like Hits or Blocked Shots.

Gleason (elbow) was a participant in Friday's practice, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Rather than skating in his usual spot next to Mike Green, Gleason was instead limited to fourth-pairing duties with fellow injured defenseman Dmitry Orlov. Based on that arrangement, it appears likely that Gleason will be forced to miss a second straight game Saturday against the Jets, though coach Barry Trotz has yet to issue an official ruling on the blueliner's status.

Gleason is on track to miss Thursday's game against the Wild due to an upper-body injury, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Gleason didn't take part in the Capitals' gameday skate and was seen applying an ice bag to his elbow in the locker room after the session concluded. The Capitals seem to be considering Gleason day-to-day for the time being, with Nate Schmidt likely to slot in on the third pairing in his place during Thursday's game.

Gleason was traded to the Capitals on Saturday in exchange for Jack Hillen and a 2015 fourth-round draft pick. It's the second time in two years that Gleason has been dealt prior to the deadline, after the Hurricanes previously dealt the blueliner to the Maple Leafs in January before signing him to a one-year contract in the summer. Gleason is expected to slot in on the Capitals' third pairing next to Mike Green, where he'll be tasked with providing physicality to complement Green's more offensive-based, finesse game.

Gleason picked up a five-minute fighting major for dropping the gloves with Tim Jackman during Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Ducks.Gleason, who has just seven points in 49 games so far this season, is now second on the team in the PIM category with 44. That said, it's hard to recommend Gleason in most formats due to his lack of scoring, not to mention his team-worst plus-minus rating of -16. However, he does show fairly well in secondary categories like the aforementioned PIM, as well as hits (120) and blocked shots (77). If you can withstand his primary stat deficiencies, he may be of some use to you.

Gleason registered an assist - just his sixth point of the season - during Saturday's shootout loss to St. Louis. He also recorded five PIM and two hits. Gleason has never been a big scorer, but brings a physical edge to the Canes' lineup. He is currently tied with Brad Malone for the team lead in hits with 91, and is third in PIM with 35. If you're in a deeper fantasy league that counts these secondary stat categories, Gleason may be of some use to you. But in scoring-only formats, he's fodder.

The Hurricanes should provide an update on his condition after the game.
