The Predators signed McCollum to a one-year contract on Tuesday and placed him on waivers with the intention of sending him to the minors.

As for McCollum, Detroit selected him with the 30th overall pick in the 2008 draft, but he he's played in just three NHL games to date and hasn't had the pleasure of doing so since the 2014-15 campaign.

McCollum stopped all 17 shots he faced in relief duty Thursday after Petr Mrazek was pulled in a 5-1 loss. McCollum has been great in his two relief appearances this year, allowing one goal on 25 shots and picking up a win. He may get a shot at starting Saturday with Petr Mrazek in a mini-slump.
