Teuvo Teravainen, Jordan Martinook, Warren Foegele and Jeser Fast are all currently sidelined due to the NHL's COVID-19 protocols, so Lorentz is expected to make his NHL debut Thursday, skating on Carolina's third line against Tampa Bay. The 2015 seventh-round pick notched 46 points in 61 AHL appearances last season.

EDGE Analysis
Given the Canes' stacked forward roster, there was little chance Lorentz was going to win himself a spot on the team out of training camp this year. He has yet to play a game at the NHL level, however he did manage to post 46 points in 61 games at AHL Charlotte last season, so there's some potential there.

Lorentz inked a two-year, two-way deal with Carolina on Thursday.

Lorentz was with the club for the postseason but still hasn't made his NHL debut. In 61 appearances for AHL Charlotte last year, the 2015 seventh-round selection recorded 23 goals and 23 assists. The 24-year-old center should compete for a spot on the 23-man roster next season, though he may need to spend some time in the press box even if does secure a spot on the roster.

Lorentz spent four seasons playing for OHL Peterborough where he tallied 164 points in 247 contests. This past year, the 21-year-old compiled nine goals and six helpers in nine postseason contests -- leading the OHL in playoff scoring. Lorentz will join AHL Charlotte in its pursuit of the Calder Cup.
