The Edmonton Oilers are likely to buy out Sheldon Souray. It looks like Oilers GM Steve Tambellini's recent attempts to trade Souray have been just as fruitless as all of his previous attempts. It looks like no other team wants to absorb his current cap hit, given his history of injuries and the fact that he spent all of 2010-11 in the minors. "I haven't finalized that yet," said Tambellini. "But obviously we have to make some decisions soon." Stay tuned.

The Edmonton Oilers were unsuccessful in trying to move defenseman Sheldon Souray to another NHL team. The Oilers were hoping to get a draft pick during the weekend's Entry Draft for Souray but could not. "I've had discussions with most teams but haven't been able to do anything with Sheldon at this time," said Oilers GM Steve Tambellini. The Oilers do not want Souray back next season so they will either bury him in the minors once again or buy out the remaining year of his contract which will cost the Oilers $3.6 million on the salary cap, spread out equally over the next two years, but only $3 million in actual cash.

There's been some new trade talks involving Sheldon Souray, according to Oilers GM Steve Tambellini. Edmonton has been unable to trade Souray or even give him away for free on waivers, but maybe he'll be a bit more attractive due to the rising salary cap and the fact that he's entering the last season of his contract. Souray spent the entire 2010-11 season in the minors after demanding a trade prior to the start of the Oilers' 2010 training camp. Tambellini doesn't think Souray playing with the Oilers next season is a likely scenario, which probably means that Souray will be bought out or sent to the minors again if he can't be traded.
