Brookbank was released by the Ducks from his professional tryout contract Monday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Brookbank hadn't logged any minutes in the preseason, so the move doesn't come as much of a surprise. The veteran will likely land an AHL contract somewhere else.

The Flames have extended a tryout to Brookbank at their training camp in the fall, the Calgary Sun reports.
Brookbank spent the past two seasons with the Blackhawks, and collected two goals and five assists in 48 games last season. He will get a shot at the sixth or seventh defenseman spot, and his experience may give him an early edge.

Sheldon Brookbank still has interest in returning to the Chicago Blackhawks if a slot opens up for him.
The Blackhawks would likely only do that if they trade away a defenseman in a cap-saving measure. They currently have seven blueliners inked to one-way deals. Meanwhile, Brookbank is investigating his other options.

Sheldon Brookbank can become an unrestricted free agent in July.
According to a source, Brookbank is in the mix to return next season. He played 48 games with the Blackhawks last year and appeared in seven playoff matches. Brookbank mostly serves as a depth defender for Chicago, but he can also play at forward which makes him a handy player to have.

Sheldon Brookbank saw his first action in the conference final Friday night.
He dressed in place of Kris Versteeg, who was a healthy scratch. Brookbank was minus one in only 5:09 of playing time in Chicago's 4-3 win Friday night. That said, Brookbank seems to be somewhat of a good luck charm for the Hawks. He has played in only six games this post season and the Hawks have won five of them.

Chicago coach Joel Quenneville put Sheldon Brookbank back in the lineup for Game 3 versus Minnesota.
"Brooksie came in [against] St. Louis and deserved a chance to play," Quenneville said after Chicago lost Tuesday night by a score of 4-0. "I thought he played well." Brookbank played three games for the Blackhawks while Brent Seabrook was suspended. He replaced Nick Leddy, who was a healthy scratch, in his first appearance in Round 2.

Sheldon Brookbank might find himself back in the press box now that Brent Seabrook has served his suspension.
Seabrook was out for three games as punishment for his high hit on St. Louis' David Backes. Brookbank did a fine job in Seabrook's absence, but obviously someone has to come out to make room for him.
