Harper was released from his professional tryout agreement Monday, Jon Rosen of Fox Sports West reports.

Harper is coming off a rookie campaign with Florida where he played in just 14 games, notching two goals and an assist. He spent the majority of the season in the AHL and after being released Monday, that appears to be the leading option for him once again to start the year.

Harper was traded from the Panthers to the Devils on Wednesday in exchange for defenseman Reece Scarlett.

EDGE Analysis

Harper drew into 14 NHL games at the beginning of the season while the Panthers were dealing with a multitude of injuries, but was not recalled since then. He has 19 points in 39 games at the AHL level this season and he's probably destined to remain in the minors barring a lot of injuries in New Jersey.

Harper was placed on waivers Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

EDGE Analysis

Harper's three points this season came in a two game span in late October, but it's been eight games since then without more than one shot on goal in a game. If he clears waivers, he'll head to AHL Springfield.

Harper found twine twice at even strength in Saturday's 5-2 win over the visiting Avalanche. He also picked up five PIM for fighting.

EDGE Analysis

The pair of snipes are the first points of Harper's NHL career. He hadn't done much in his first four games in the NHL (three shots, 9:41 average ice time), but the California native put up 120 points over his last three AHL campaigns. Furthermore, Harper impressed enough in Panthers camp to not only make the team, but to dress in every game thus far, although some of that can be attributed to the Cats' injury woes up front.

Harper re-signed a one-year contract with the Panthers on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

After joining the organization in the offseason, Harper spent the year playing for AHL Portland where he tallied 37 points in 59 games. The undrafted 27-year-old should get a chance to make his NHL debut next season if he can keep up that level of production, however it is unlikely he will become a regular contributor any time soon.

Shane Harper has inked a one-year AHL contract with the St. Louis Blues' affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. Harper had 13 goals and 33 points in 63 contests in 2013-14. He's 25 years old and hasn't played at the NHL level.

Shane Harper has been sent to the New York Islanders, along with a fourth-round draft pick in 2014, in exchange for the rights to defenseman Mark Streit. Harper registered 10 points and 35 penalty minutes in 48 games with AHL Adirondack. He also had 14 goals and 27 points in 15 contests with Trenton of the ECHL.
