Zsombor Garat, Blade Jenkins, Artem Kulakov, Brent Moran, Dmytro Timashov, Samuel Asselin, Cole Bardreau, Tanner Fritz, Jeff Kubiak, Tristan Lennox, Ashton Calder, Joseph Cipollone, Riley Piercey, Jake Pivonka, Trevor Cosgrove, Christian Krygier, Vincent Sevigny and Henrik Tikkanen were also sent down to the farm team to allow Bridgeport to prepare for the upcoming season.

Helgeson was promoted from AHL Bridgeport on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Helgeson has registered three assists and 22 PIM in 13 games for the Sound Tigers this year. While the 29-year-old is unlikely to get into Thursday's matchup with Pittsburgh, it would be his first appearance in an NHL game since 2016-17 with the Devils.

The Islanders re-assigned Helgeson to AHL Bridgeport Tuesday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
In the same day the defenseman got called up to the big club, the Islanders quickly sent Helgeson back down. He obviously didn't suit up in Tuesday's game against Ottawa, and is still looking for his first NHL appearance since the 2016-17 season.

The Islanders recalled Helgeson from AHL Bridgeport on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Helgeson will provide the Isles with a seventh healthy defenseman while Nick Leddy tends to a lower-body injury ahead of Tuesday's game against the Senators. The 29-year-old hasn't made an appearance at the NHL level since the 2016-17 season.

Helgeson signed a two-year, two-way contract extension with the Islanders on Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. The deal is worth $650,000 next season, but it gets bumped up to $700,000 in 2019-20, with the AHL rates set at $250,000 each year.
EDGE Analysis
We mean no disrespect to Helgeson -- he plays a physical game and appears resolute in his quest to land a stable NHL role -- but all eyes are on Islanders captain John Tavares as he mulls over an offer to re-sign with the Metropolitan Division club or hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent Sunday. Helgeson has accrued one goal, three assists and 50 PIM in as many career contests, so take that for what's its worth.

Helgeson was placed on waivers by the Islanders on Friday, Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Formerly with the Devils, Helgeson signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Isles on July 1, the primary signing day for free agents. Assuming he clears waivers, Helgeson will wind up in AHL Bridgeport to start the season.

Helgeson has signed a one-year two-way contract with the Islanders on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Helgeson is likely ticketed for Bridgeport of the AHL and will be called upon if and when injuries arise. He played with the Devils last season and scored one goal in nine games.

Helgeson was assigned to AHL Albany on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
With the potential return of Pavel Zacha (concussion) looming, the Devils needed to unload one of their eight defenseman and Helgeson appears to be the choice. The 26-year-old drew into just four games since being recalled on Jan. 30, netting a goal and posting a plus-2 rating.

Helgeson cleared waivers Saturday, but the Devils didn't immediately send him to AHL Albany, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team's hesitancy to send Helgeson directly to its minor-league affiliate could signal that a trade is in the works. A brawny blueliner listed at 6-foot-4 and 214 pounds, it's conceivable that the 26-year-old ends up in a packaged trade since he qualifies as a rental player with unrestricted free-agent status this summer. However, if he stays put in the Devils system, something has to give as the team currently has a lopsided roster composition comprised of eight healthy defensemen and the bare minimum up front.

Helgeson was waived by the Devils on Friday, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Devils are yielding 31.4 shots per game this season to the detriment of starting goalie Cory Schneider, so it's no surprise to see a bit of a shakeup on the blue line. Helgeson has found a second home in the press box, appearing in just nine games this campaign, so he may be hoping for another team to scoop him up. Otherwise, the third-year defender likely would take a step back by toiling in the minors with AHL Albany.
