Ryan Potulny and Avangard Omsk have parted ways. He inked a two-year deal with the Russian club in May, but suffered a shoulder injury that will require surgery. Potulny has been a strong AHL player during his professional career, but hasn't had any success at the NHL level.

Ryan Potulny had two assists Wednesday night in Hershey's 4-0 win over St. John's. Potulny, who has 11 points, last played in the NHL in the 2010-11 season with the Senators. He's spent the last two seasons with the Caps' AHL affiliate and will likely continue to be minor league depth. Zach Hamill, a 2007 first-rounder of the Bruins who is now with the Caps, had a goal in the win, his 17th point of the season.

The Ottawa Senators said on Monday that they will not retain the rights to Ryan Potulny, Cody Bass and Jason Bailey. All three players will become unrestricted free agents on Friday after not getting qualifying offers. Potulny skated in just 10 games with Chicago and Ottawa last season, but was outstanding in Binghamton's drive to a Calder Cup championship with 26 points in 23 playoff games to lead all scorers. Ottawa GM Bryan Murray called the decision a favor to Potulny and Bass to try to get them one-way contracts elsewhere.
