Coach Patrick Roy is pleased so far with the play of Ryan O'Reilly on the left wing.
O'Reilly was moved to the wing from center when the Avalanche selected Nathan MacKinnon with the first overall pick. O'Reilly will play on the top line with Matt Duchene and P.A. Parenteau and that line should be dynamite for the Avs. O'Reilly had 20 points in 29 games last season as he held out into the season before the Avs matched the Flames offer sheet. Expect a 20 goal, 60 point effort from O'Reilly in 2013-14. He will have more value once he gets left wing eligibility from your fantasy pool as there are plenty of good centers but not a lot of quality left wingers.

Ryan O'Reilly, star member of the Colorado Avalanche, has no problems with the plans of new coach Patrick Roy to move him from center to right wing.
"I'm excited about it," O'Reilly says. "I'm looking at it as a good new challenge for me. I mean, I'll be playing with two great players (Matt Duchene at center and P.A. Parenteau at right wing). I've played on the wing before, with Canada in the World Championships (skating with Jeff Skinner and Jordan Staal) so I'm not totally unfamiliar with it." O'Reilly went through a contract impasse with the Avs last year and missed a bunch of the season so his mindset is different this off-season now that he has a long-term contract in place. "Well, it's much more comfortable," he said. "This time, I know I'll be at training camp, training at altitude early, with my teammates. I know I can just concentrate on hockey and nothing else. What happened happened, but I'm just glad it's behind me. I just want to win with the Avalanche. Last year, on top of things, there was the lockout and that made everything tougher for everybody. It's nice not to have to worry. .&

Ryan O'Reilly, star member of the Colorado Avlanche, has no problems with the plans of new coach Patrick Roy to move him from center to left wing.
"I'm excited about it," O'Reilly said. "I'm looking at it as a good new challenge for me. I mean, I'll be playing with two great players (Matt Duchene at center and P.A. Parenteau on right wing). O'Reilly went through a contract impasse with the Avs last year and missed the start of the season. Look for O'Reilly to have a 55-60 point season if he remains healthy and on the top line. Draft him in the middle rounds of your pool.

The Avalanche have pretty much determined their top three lines for the 2013-14 season.
Ryan O'Reilly will shift from center to left wing on a line with Matt Duchene and P.A. Parenteau, while Paul Stastny will center Gabriel Landeskog and Alex Tanguay. Just-drafted Nathan MacKinnon will play between Steve Downie and Jamie McGinn on the third unit.

Though he only had six goals on the season, he also had 14 assists, finishing with he best point-per-game production of his young career. He could take a big step next season. Patrick Bordeleau and Gabriel Landeskog had the assists.

Avalanche center Ryan O'Reilly says he'll will be a better player next season.
O'Reilly's play has been reasonably good as he has notched 17 points in 25 games since signing an offer sheet with the Calgary Flames that was subsequently matched by the Avs, but he is currently in the midst of a 12-game goal scoring drought. "I thought it felt good for the most part at the start, and then it kind of took a dip and now I can't seem to find the net right now," O'Reilly said. "Obviously, we've needed some goals and then I get a goal lapse. I had a job to step into and didn't do it. It's disappointing. I'm supposed to do the job, and I didn't do the job." Our feelings on O'Reilly haven't changed significantly from what they were before the year. He's a useful player in medium to deep leagues, but far from a fantasy superstar.

Ryan O'Reilly recorded an assist on Saturday.
O'Reilly got off to a great start in his return to the Avalanche, but he has just two points in his last 10 games. Still, with 15 points in 23 contests in 2013, he's done well enough to suggest he might put up numbers similar to his 2011-12 career-high of 55 in 2013-14.

Ryan O'Reilly had a goal and an assist against the Calgary Flames in a 4-3 loss Wednesday.
O'Reilly signed an offer sheet with Calgary, but the Colorado Avalanche ultimately decided to match it. Since then O'Reilly has done surprising well despite going roughly 11 months between NHL games. O'Reilly has four goals and 13 points in 13 games and is on a four-game point streak.
