Murphy (leg) took shots on the ice prior to Friday's morning skate, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.Murphy isn't expected to return to action for at least another two weeks, so his activity on the ice was likely just an attempt to stay conditioned while he continues to recover from the leg injury. The Hurricanes haven't provided an indication of when Murphy might be able to start practicing with the team again.

Murphy has been ruled out four weeks with a leg injury and was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Chantel McCabe of FOX Sports Carolinas reports.Murphy went in for MRI on Monday, which confirmed the grim diagnosis. Fortunately for the blueliner, who suffered the injury last Thursday against the Coyotes, he will not require surgery. The 21-year-old should be able to return during the final few weeks of the season, but it probably makes sense for those who owned him in single-season leagues to cut bait in pursuit of a healthier option. Murphy had inched his way onto the fantasy radar by picking up his offensive production since rejoining the Hurricanes out of the All-Star break, tallying a goal, assist, and 16 shot attempts over his last five games.

Murphy will not return to Thursday's game against the Coyotes due to a lower-body injury.
Murphy appeared to twist his knee after taking a high stick, and had to be taken off the ice. The severity of the injury is a bit unclear at this point, but he will miss the remainder of Thursday's tilt at a minimum. The team should provide an update on his status at some point before their next game Saturday.

Murphy notched a power-play goal in Friday's shootout loss to the Blues.
The goal was Murphy's first goal of the season. While his season point totals don't jump off the page, the 21-year-old's offensive trends do offer some encouragement. He enjoyed a three-game assist streak earlier this month, and has attempted two or more shots in each of his last four contests.
