Haggerty was brought in by the Panthers from the Penguins in a minor-league swap for Kevin Roy.
EDGE Analysis
Haggerty has managed just six points in 23 games for the Baby Pens and has yet to make his NHL debut. If the 26-year-old couldn't break his way into a banged up Pittsburgh lineup, he will likely be hard pressed to suit up for Florida any time soon.

Haggerty agreed to terms on a two-year, two-way contract with the Penguins on Tuesday, Jonathan Bombulie of TribLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After signing his new deal, Haggerty was placed on waivers in order to move him down to the minors. Even with the two-way contract in place, the winger is unlikely to see action with the Penguins given the team's blue line depth.

Haggerty was placed on waivers by the Penguins on Tuesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Assuming he clears, Haggerty will be reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he figures to spend the bulk of the upcoming campaign. With a handful of players ahead of him -- Zach Aston-Reese, Derek Grant and Jean-Sebastien Dea to name a few -- it would take a significant number of injuries for Haggerty to find himself suiting up in Pittsburgh this year.

The Blackhawks acquired Haggerty from the Rangers in exchange for Antti Raanta on Saturday.
It's a good move for the Blackhawks, as they will soon be in dire need of additional depth at forward, as they are likely to lose Patrick Sharp among others due to salary cap constraints as soon as free agency opens on July 1. With the emergence of Scott Darling in 2014-15, Raanta became an expendable commodity. Haggerty has yet to make his NHL debut, but is only 22 years old, and performed well in the AHL last season. Haggerty was able to rack up 33 points in 76 games with AHL Hartford in 2014-15, and will likely split time between the AHL and NHL next season.

The Rangers assigned Haggerty to AHL Hartford on Monday.
Haggerty made a run at a roster spot despite not playing professionally until this year, but he will ultimately open the season with Hartford. The 21-year-old could be a factor for the Rangers at some point this season, particularly if he can keep improving offensively as he did over his final two seasons with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of the ECAA.

Haggerty tallied an assist and two goals on a team-leading five shots in Monday's 6-3 exhibition victory over the Flyers.
Haggerty is building some late momentum to win a roster spot for the Rangers, but considering the larger number of wings the team already has in place on one-way deals, Monday's outburst might not help his chances of making the roster all that much. He'd have an easier path to the roster if he was a natural center, a position where the Rangers are lacking in depth.

New York Post hockey scribe Larry Brooks is perplexed with the Rangers' decision to guarantee youngster Ryan Haggery a clause that will prevent them from sending him to the minor leagues the rest of this season.
"There is nothing inappropriate about the Rangers agreeing to accelerate the cycle on Haggerty's NHL arbitration and free-agent clocks by allowing him to burn the first season of his three-year entry-level deal," Brooks writes. "That is part of business. But a guarantee not to send Haggerty to Hartford - even if that's where the young wing belongs and, more likely than not, where he would benefit from playing pro hockey for the remainder of the Wolf Pack schedule rather than skating in practice with the Rangers? It seems wrong." Brooks adds: "Maybe Haggerty will earn his keep. But even if he does not, the Rangers have to keep him. Something seems out of focus with that picture."
