Clune will hang up his skates and join the Maple Leafs' Department of Player Development, the team announced Thursday.

Transactionally, we don't know what this "loan" means -- does it protect him from passing through waivers or not? The trade deadline is approaching and while he's not likely to be used as bait, the Leafs may want to hold onto him and spot him back in as a warm body after they clean house.
