The Detroit Red Wings have been fined by the NHL for comments made by executive Jim Devellano regarding the lockout. Despite being under a league-implemented gag order regarding the lockout, Devellano was quoted as saying "Each owner/team has a decision as to how they want to pay their players, as long as they are under the cap. Now (NHLPA executive director) Donald Fehr would have you believe by getting rid of the cap, the owners would make more money and that the sky is the limit, but trust me ... the owners would lose their (rears). We've tried that. It doesn't work. There is just too much cost involved in running and owning a team." The fine is reportedly int he area of $250,000.

Pavel Datsyuk has met up with his team for the lockout: CSKA Moscow. Datsyuk didn't participate in Saturday's game, but it presumably won't be long before he makes his debut. He spent the 2004-05 lockout with Moscow Dynamo.

Pavel Datsyuk is reportedly still mulling over his options, according to agent Gary Greenstin. "We'll decide in the next few days," said Greenstin. "We'll make a decision. Pavel wants to play." There were reports circulating that Datsyuk had agreed to terms with KHL team AK Bars Kazan, but those appear to be premature at this time.

Pavel Datsyuk has signed with AK Bars Kazan of the KHL. It is Datsyuk's former Russian team that he played for before signing with the Red Wings in the 2000-01 season. It was still the RSL at the time and he scored nine goals and 17 assists in 42 games as a 22-year-old. Datsyuk will return to the NHL when a new CBA has been signed.

The Detroit Red Wings have announced the cancellation of their annual prospects tournament in Traverse City. GM Ken Holland cited the uncertainty surrounding the CBA talks as the reason for the decision, which isn't surprising considering other teams made the same calls earlier in the summer when faced with their prospects tournaments. The Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues were set to participate with Detroit in Traverse City and they have committed to coming back in 2013.

The NHL has the ability to cancel the Winter Classic between the Maple Leafs and Red Wings at Michigan Stadium on the date of the game, Jan. 1, if there's a lockout, according to the New York Times. The league would forfeit only $100,000 of its $3 million stadium rental fee. In part, the contract states that the league can pull out of the game if there's a work stoppage "arising from the lack of a collective bargaining agreement." The Times states, "The N.H.L.'s contract with Michigan contains provisions that treat a work stoppage in a way similar to a 'force majeure' cancellation brought about by act of God, riot, weather, disaster or any other cause beyond the league's control." The deal does not cover the outdoor games played that week at Comerica Park, which includes the alumni games between the Wings and Leafs, however.

"A nightmare" is Pavel Datsyuk's take on life as a Red Wing without Nicklas Lidstrom. Datysuk, who is a Selke finalist, can't seem to come to grips that the recently-retired Lidstrom will no longer be patrolling the blue line. The veteran center said Lidstrom leaving the game was a "big shock", but also understands it is time to start a new chapter.

Pavel Datsyuk can match Montreal's Bob Gainey as the only four-time winner of the Selke Trophy on Wednesday night. He won the award, that goes annually to the league's top defensive forward, three straight years from 2008-10. This will mark his fifth nomination for the distinction.
