Pavel Datsyuk (head) is going through concussion protocols, but GM Ken Holland said he's feeling better. He felt woozy after he was elbowed in the jaw courtesy by Ottawa's Jared Cowen Saturday and he didn't play Sunday as a result. Datsyuk is slated to be at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday, but it's unclear if he'll practice. The Wings said he is improving daily and he may not be out for very long. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Pavel Datsyuk is sidelined after receiving an elbow to the head during Saturday's contest. Datsyuk didn't even travel with his teammates to Buffalo for Sunday's contest. "After the game he felt, I don't know the word, but he wasn't quite right," Red Wings GM Ken Holland said. "We're going through the protocol, see how he feels in the next day or two." Holland that Datsyuk felt "fuzzy." The obvious fear is that he might have a concussion.

Pavel Datsyuk sniped two goals for Detroit, which lost 5-4 via the shootout to the Islanders on Saturday night. Datsyuk had the game-tying goal for Detroit with 43 seconds left in regulation. There is a theme with these ageless veterans: hockey IQ. Datsyuk, now 35, certainly still has the slickest hands in hockey but there's a reason he can put them to use so well. Like Jaromir Jagr, Datsyuk is on another planet in terms of how well he thinks the game. He now has 11 goals and 22 points this season. Darren Helm had a goal and an assist, and Johan Franzen notched the other goal.

Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg skated on the same line during Tuesday's practice. Datsyuk and Zetterberg have spent most of the season together, but they were split up recently. Todd Bertuzzi rounded out the top line during the practice, but there's no guarantee that line will actually be used on Wednesday against Vancouver.

Pavel Datsyuk registered an assist in Detroit's 3-2 overtime defeat on Saturday. Datsyuk has five goals and 12 points in 12 games, which puts him into a tie for 13th place in the NHL's scoring race. He's not a bad bet to reach the 80-point mark this season if he stays healthy.
