Sharp (hip) will be reunited with the Blackhawks through free agency Saturday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The move will be official when the signing period opens at noon ET.
EDGE Analysis
Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman has an affinity for bringing back key players from the glory days -- for example, he's given defensemen Brian Campbell, Johnny Oduya, and now forward Brandon Saad, return tickets to the Windy City -- but it's hard to blame the guy for wanting a three-time Stanley Cup winner in Sharp back in tow. Sharp played for the Stars the past two seasons, and his debut campaign was strong at 55 points in 76 games, though he fell all the way to 18 points with a minus-22 rating in 2016-17; his most recent campaign was marred by two concussions and a bum hip that required surgery and ended his season in late March. Still, a return to Chicago -- even at a discount -- seems like the best possible setting for Sharp and his quest for a performance rebound. As a result, we wouldn't disregard him in fantasy drafts this fall.

Sharp (hip) was not included on the Stars' protected players list for the expansion draft.
EDGE Analysis
Sharp played in just 48 games this year after suffering a pair of concussions and then undergoing season-ending hip surgery in March. While the winger did manage eight goals and 10 helpers, he also registered a minus-22 rating and saw the lowest average ice time of his career (15:57). The Golden Knights might not be the only club concerned about the veteran's injury history as he appears set to hit free agency on July 1.

Sharp will undergo season-ending hip surgery Tuesday, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 2016-17 campaign was anything but friendly to the veteran winger, as he experienced two concussions, trouble with his hip, and one heck of a time keeping up defensively on the way to a career-low minus-22 rating over 47 games. Unfortunately -- if that wasn't enough -- his father is also said to be receiving treatment for Leukemia. It was reported March 1 that Sharp would delay his surgery until after the season, but he evidently wanted to keep going despite the Stars having next to no shot at the playoffs. All is not lost, however, as Sharp reportedly has been nominated for the Masterton Trophy, with that coveted piece of hardware going to the player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.

Sharp scored a goal, recorded an assist and registered four shots on goal during Monday's win over Washington.
EDGE Analysis
It's been a disastrous season for the 35-year-old veteran, as Sharp has just eight goals and 18 points through 40 games. While health has clearly been an issue, he's also well past his prime and playing on a struggling club. Monday was a bright spot, but it's unlikely to become the norm. Sharp checks out as a fringe fantasy asset in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Sharp has been playing through an unknown ailment that will eventually require surgery, but he plans to keep playing as long as he can without undergoing the operation, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is a unique injury situation, as Sharp's situation appears to be something of a ticking time bomb -- he'll keep playing through the problem, but at any given time he could have to get surgery that would end his season. Given those circumstances and the fact that the 35-year-old has just three points in his last 12 games, he's not a recommended fantasy play.

Sharp had an assist, a plus-1 rating and two shots in Sunday's loss to the Bruins.
EDGE Analysis
Even with some contributions Sunday, Sharp has been underwhelming this season. He has just 15 points in 36 games. However, in season-long formats, there may be some value in him if the Stars are able to trade him at the deadline. Sharp may be able to return to last season's form on a team where he's playing for something.

Sharp had an assist and three shots in Tuesday's win over Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
That gives Sharp points in back-to-back games. It's much needed with the winger at just 12 points in 25 games. He's averaging less than a half point per game and that's well below what's expected from him. Hopefully, this is a sign that he's at 100 percent and ready to produce because he hasn't looked like the Sharp of old. His 16:12 of average ice time is the lowest he's recorded since his sophomore campaign in the 2005-06 season.

Sharp scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season in a 4-3 win against Buffalo on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
It's been a tough season for Sharp with just 24 appearances due to injuries, but he's been very effective upon his return, scoring five goals and four assists in 13 games. Even though he's no longer one of the league's premier snipers, he still plays an important scoring depth role for the Stars. The good news about Sharp is that he has looked very dangerous of late with four goals in his past five games and continues to shoot the puck a lot, but the 35-year-old can be a feast-or-famine fantasy player.

Sharp potted his third and fourth goals of the year in Tuesday's 7-6 victory over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Both tallies were extremely timely. He scored the first off a turnover just 12 seconds after Patrick Eaves' goal in the first period, giving the Stars a 2-1 lead and a huge burst of momentum. The second goal blunted the Rangers' momentum, as they'd narrowed a 4-1 lead to 4-3 with a pair of second-period tallies, only for Sharp to score 48 seconds later and turn the tide again. This season as a whole can be described as a struggle at best for the veteran winger, but his seven points in eight games since the new year certainly offer legitimate hope of a second-half surge.

Sharp scored an empty-net goal, recorded two assists and registered four shots on net with a plus-2 rating during Monday's win over the Kings.
EDGE Analysis
Limited to just 15 games this season, Sharp has been a fantasy afterthought. However, the veteran's big night Monday is an encouraging breakout, and his offensive track record makes him a must-own asset in almost all fantasy settings. After all, Sharp averaged 3.4 shots per game and posted a 19th-ranked 2.61 points per 60 minutes among all skaters with at least 4,000 minutes over the previous three years.
