The veteran provided the secondary assist on William Nylander's first goal of the postseason, a goal that gave the visitors a two-goal lead heading into the final 20 minutes. John Tavares would add an empty-netter in the late stages to make it a 4-1 final. Thursday's helper gives Marleau -- 39 years of age -- 126 points in 185 career playoff games.

Marleau has one goal, two assists and a minus-2 rating in his last nine games.

Overall, his 36 points (72 games) put him at risk of barely hitting 40 points this season. Marleau's game has clearly dropped off dramatically this season and he is struggling to move the puck up the ice in possession. His problems 5-on-5 started last season, but were masked by the glitter of those 27 goals. This year, the Leafs are getting outshot, outchanced and outscored when Marleau is on the ice. Put simply, he's dragging down the scorers he plays with. At 39, Marleau is probably a league-average fourth liner now, not a top-nine guy. And with another year at $6 million AAV, he's a huge anchor on the Leafs' salary cap.

Marleau has three multipoint games in his previous seven outings and appears to be rediscovering his scoring tough at the right time. The veteran winger needs just seven more points to earn his sixth straight 40-point campaign.

It's hard to recommend Marleau, but this warming trend may make him relevant to owners in deep leagues. While his numbers don't jump off the page -- 12 goals and 12 assists over 50 games -- Marleau remains a budget-friendly DFS option in most contests. His track record consisting of 1,153 points (547 goals, 606 assists) over 21 year of service time (primarily with the Sharks) speaks for itself.

Still performing at a consistent level for Toronto, Marleau's nightly average of 0.48 points per game is his lowest mark since his rookie campaign back in 1997-98.

Marleau is projected to finish this season with 44 points.

Through 37 games, the 39-year-old Marleau has 10 goals and 10 assists. With so many offensive weapons to choose from, Toronto hasn't needed to rely on the veteran as much as in past seasons. If he continues on his current pace, Marleau would wind up with 22 goals and 22 assists, marking his lowest point total since the 2012-13 season. That year, as a member of the Sharks, Marleau appeared in just 48 games and still managed 31 points. He's definitely lost a step but continues to benefit from a star-studded supporting cast.

And with that snipe, Marleau became the 25th player in league history to score against each of the 31 NHL teams. In this case, it came against his former squad. Marleau one-timed a pass from Andreas Johnsson from the bottom of the right face-off circle. After a slow start to the season, Patty has nine points (four goals, five assists) in 13 games in November.

Marleau is on pace to match his point total from a season ago.

The 39-year-old veteran has seven helpers in his last 10 games, and at the quarter mark of the season is averaging the same amount of points per game he did a season ago (0.57), putting him on pace to match his 2017-18 mark of 47 points. It's worth noting that Marleau is shooting less this season, averaging 2.05 shots per game which is his lowest per-game shot output since 2001-02. With so many goal scorers already on the roster, Toronto doesn't need Marleau to fill the net in 2018-19 and instead would prefer that he simply continue setting the table for his teammates.

Marleau scored the Leafs' only goal in a 2-1 loss to Dallas on Thursday night.

Marleau has not been getting goals this season -- he's been playing with shoot-first Auston Mathews, so it's not really a surprise. He may be 39, but he can still skate with the speedy young Leafs. Marleau was moved onto the team's first power-play for Thursday and was parked in front of the net. It might be just what he needs to get on a roll.
