Cormier put pen to paper on a one-year deal with Barys Astana (KHL) on Monday.

Following a four-year stint in the QMJHL, Cormier bounced between the NHL and AHL, playing a total of 52 NHL games in which he tallied five points and 18 PIM. The defenseman never cracked the Jets lineup last season, instead spending the entire campaign with the Moose. His move to Russia will be the 2008 second-round pick's first crack at European hockey.

Cormier was sent to AHL Manitoba on Sunday.

Either he or JC Lipon (the other forward recalled Sunday) will likely draw into Monday's lineup against the Avalanche.

Cormier was recalled from AHL St. John's on Thursday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports. Cormier was recalled to take the roster spot of Evander Kane (undisclosed), who was placed on injured reserve Thursday. It's expected that Cormier will just serve as an extra forward during the bulk of his stay with the Jets. Cormier had three points in nine games for Winnipeg earlier this season.
