The Blues initially feared Sundqvist would face an extended absence, but it appears he could return after just a week on injured reserve. The 25-year-old isn't eligible to play Monday against the Blackhawks, but the team likely wouldn't bring him on the trip if there wasn't at least an outside chance at playing Wednesday.

After potting the game-winning goal against Tampa Bay on Nov. 19, Sundqvist followed up that performance with a two-goal outing against Calgary and now has six goals, 10 points, in 23 games this season. He finished the night at plus-4 while firing a team-high five shots on net.

Sundqvist's shorthanded goal was one of three shorthanded markers scored by St. Louis in this one. He now has four goals and four assists in 22 games played this season. Tuesday's goal was Sundqvist's first game-winning goal of the 2019-20 campaign after scoring two a season ago.

Sundqvist was fined $7,397.47 for charging John Gibson in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Ducks.

EDGE Analysis

Sundqvist was dished the maximum fine allowed by the CBA, but he fortunately escaped without a suspension. The 25-year-old forward was suspended one game during the last postseason for a hit to the head of Matt Grzelcyk, so he'll need to tread lightly with a possible "repeat offender" tag looming. Nevertheless, Sundqvist will continue working on the fourth line Tuesday against Tampa Bay.

Sundqvist is scheduled for a hearing with the NHL's player safety department Sunday for charging Anaheim goaltender John Gibson.

EDGE Analysis

Sundqvist made an ill-advised play mid-way through the second period of Saturday's game when he ran into Gibson, who was trying to play the puck behind the net. There looked to be intent and some contact up high, so a suspension could be looming for the Swede. Expect the official word ahead of Tuesday's game against Tampa Bay, and if Sundqvist should be handed a suspension, Jacob De La Rose could be the first one to enter the lineup.
