Pavelec will be making just his ninth appearance between the pipes this season, having posted a 2-4-1 record and 3.04 GAA in his previous outings. Washington is averaging the lowest shots in the league (28.5), but is still converting at a rate of 3.08 goals per game, which means it won't be an easy outing for the netminder.

Pavelec saved 44 of 45 shots before allowing two goals in the shootout during Monday's 2-1 loss to Dallas.

This was a rare dominant showing from the veteran, as Pavelec entered Monday's contest with a .901 save percentage and 2.99 GAA through 48 games over the past three seasons. Additionally, with Henrik Lundqvist locked into a huge workload, the veteran Czech is unlikely to see many starts moving forward. It all adds up to Pavelec offering limited fantasy upside, and it's likely safe to leave him to the waiver wire in most settings.

The first-year Ranger has had a rough start to life in the Big Apple, having gone 2-4-0 with a 3.45 GAA and .899 save percentage through seven games. That being said, Pavelec's play has improved of late, recording a 2.93 GAA and .923 save percentage over his past two starts. On Monday, Pavelec will face off with a Stars team that has dropped three straight while averaging 1.67 goals per game.

Pavelec made 41 saves in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Penguins.

Pavelec faced only four shots in the first period, but still managed to surrender the game's first goal. He was far busier in the middle frame, allowing one goal again despite being peppered with 23 shots. The Penguins managed to tie the game 3-3 early in the third, but Pavelec stonewalled them after New York regained the lead with 8:48 left. Should Henrik Lundqvist (flu) be forced to miss any more time, Pavelec looks ready to fill in effectively.

Henrik Lundqvist won't be available against the Penguins due to an illness, so Pavelec has been given the starting nod for Tuesday's match in Pittsburgh, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.

Pavelec will likely have some rust to shake off early on against the Penguins, as he hasn't made a start in net since he allowed five goals on 43 shots in a loss to the Canadiens on Oct. 28. The 30-year-old netminder has struggled in limited action this season, compiling a 1-4-0 record while posting an ugly 3.56 GAA and .889 save percentage in six appearances.

Pavelec stopped 19 of 21 shots and was handed a loss by Florida on Tuesday.

The veteran netminder entered the game at the end of the first period in relief of Henrik Lundqvist, who allowed three goals on just six shots. Tuesday marked just the sixth appearance of the season for Pavelec, who's struggled in his first season as a Ranger, owning a 3.56 GAA and .889 save percentage.

Things seemed bleak when Pavs allowed three goals in a 5:24 span in the first period. But from then on, he kept his boys within spitting distance and they actually tied it at fours early in the third. Pavelec's save percentage and goals-against aren't even worth the pixels to put them on screen. It's really too bad -- he had had a great game against the Coyotes on Thursday night.

Pavelec will make consecutive starts for the first time this season versus the Canadiens on Saturday.

Pavelec was solid in Thursday's matchup, making 27 of a possible 29 saves in a victory over Arizona. Conversely, starter Henrik Lundqvist has been disappointing, at best, as he has registered a 2-4-2 record with a 3.11 GAA. The 30-year-old Pavelec is not going to dethrone King Henrik from the No. 1 role, but appears to be on track to earn a few more games this year.

This was just the third start of the campaign for Pavelec, and not only was it by far his best, it also lands him in the wins column for the first time this year. The lowly Coyotes are now 0-9-1, though, so it wasn't exactly an impressive feat from the Blueshirt backup. Henrik Lundqvist will continue to see the majority of starts for the Rangers, so Pavelec's fantasy value remains extremely limited. The 30-year-old Czech posted a crippling .901 save percentage over the previous two seasons, after all.

Pavelec will guard the cage in Thursday's home game against the Coyotes.
