Petrecki signed a one-year AHL contract with Rochester on Tuesday, TheAHL.com reports. Petrecki spent most of the past season with AHL Worcester of the San Jose organization, before joining Rochester in a late-season loan. In total, the former first-round selection totaled a goal, three assists and 82 PIM in 49 minor league games. He'll function as a depth player for the Buffalo organization.

Nick Petrecki didn't receive a qualifying offer from San Jose. Petrecki will consequently test the unrestricted free agent market. He was taken with the 28th overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, but has only played in one NHL game.

Nick Petrecki has cleared waivers and been assigned to the minors. The San Jose Sharks still have 31 players left on their training camp roster. If he ever solidifies a spot in the NHL, he might have some fantasy value as a source of penalty minutes.
