Nick Petrecki didn't receive a qualifying offer from San Jose.
Petrecki will consequently test the unrestricted free agent market. He was taken with the 28th overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, but has only played in one NHL game.

Nick Petrecki has cleared waivers and been assigned to the minors.
The San Jose Sharks still have 31 players left on their training camp roster. If he ever solidifies a spot in the NHL, he might have some fantasy value as a source of penalty minutes.

San Jose Sharks extend qualifying offers to Nick Petrecki and Marek Viedensky.
Petrecki was the Sharks' first-round pick in 2007 but has yet to live up to the draft status. He spent the past four seasons with AHL Worchester before making his NHL debut this season. He had no points and no penalty minutes in one game in 2013. Viedensky has yet to appear in an NHL game since being drafted in the seventh round in 2009. The team also declined qualifying offers to Tommy Grant and Thomas Heemskerk, meaning both players become unrestricted free agents. Justin Sefton was not offered a contract by the June 1 deadline and was eligible to re-enter the draft.

Nick Petrecki has passed through waivers and has been sent to the minors.
Petrecki is on a two-way deal so sending the 23-year-old down to Worcester of the AHL will save the Sharks money. He has been a disappointment since being drafted in the first round, 28th overall in the 2007 Draft when the Sharks loved his hard hitting and heavy shot from the point.

Nick Petrecki has been waived by the San Jose Sharks.
The move could be a precursor to Brent Burns getting back into the lineup, but that may or may not happen as soon as Saturday afternoon. Petrecki played in just one game with San Jose and he'll probably head to the minors if he clears.

The San Jose Sharks have loaned Nick Petrecki to Worcester of the AHL.
He is being sent to the minors on a conditioning stint and the move allows the Sharks to send him down without putting him on waivers. He remains on the Sharks 23 man roster and will continue to collect an NHL salary.

Nick Petrecki will likely be the odd man out when Justin Demers is able to return to action.
Demers is close to returning and that will give the Sharks an extra blueliner. Petrecki is on a two-way contract and could use the playing time, so the 23-year-old first round pick in 2007 is the best candidate to be sent down.
