EDGE Analysis
The American goaltender played for Providence College before latching on with AHL Bakersfield and the ECHL's Witchita Thunder between 2016-18. Ellis signed a two-year, entry-level deal with the Oilers two years ago, but he was limited to game action with the team's top developmental affiliate, topping out at a 16-12-1 record, 2.69 GAA and .918 save percentage in his first minor-league season. Ellis isn't walking away from the game entirely, though, as he's now the assistant coach for Canterbury School in the USHS-Prep league.

The Oilers assigned Ellis to AHL Bakersfield on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The Oilers activated starting netminder Cam Talbot from injured reserve in a corresponding move, so they're no longer in need of Ellis' services as a backup. The 23-year-old American will return to his role as AHL Bakersfield's primary backstop for the foreseeable future.

Ellis was recalled from the minors Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Ellis's promotion comes as a result of Cam Talbot (upper body) being designated for injured reserve. The 23-year-old Ellis will serve as the backup to Laurent Brossoit against the Maple Leafs on Thursday, per Jason Gregor of OilersNation.com and probably shouldn't be expected to get into the crease unless Talbot is out long term.

Ellis was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Expect the Oilers to open the season with Laurent Brossoit as the backup to the heavily utilized Cam Talbot in the coming season. As for Ellis, he went pro just last season -- going 16-12-1 with a 2.69 GAA and .918 save percentage with AHL Bakersfield -- so expect him to take a few years to polish his game in an environment that's not nearly as intense as the NHL.

Ellis was recalled from AHL Bakersfield on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Ellis signed a two-year, entry-level deal in April of 2016 after going undrafted for four years of eligibility. The 24-year-old keeper earned the contract by putting up nice numbers during his final season at Providence College in 2015-16, posting a .936 save percentage and 1.80 GAA in 36 starts for the Friars. In his first season at the minor-league level, Ellis recorded a .918 save percentage and 2.69 GAA in 34 appearances for the AHL's Condors. He'll likely serve as nothing more than the third goalie for the Oilers' playoff run and probably won't draw in for his NHL debut barring some disastrous injury circumstances.
