With agitator Steve Ott off to Montreal, the Red Wings probably wanted to add another physical presence and Callahan certainly fits the bill. The American blueliner has maintained his physical style of play in the AHL this season but has also become more offensive-minded, as his 22 assists tie his career high. He'll likely slide into a bottom-six role with Detroit if and when he does draw into games.
