Rantanen (lower body) has been skating on his own and could get on the ice with the team soon, Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
While the club hasn't provided a specific timeline for when Rantanen might be healthy enough to play, a return to practice would certainly be a step in the right direction. Prior to suffering the injury, which has kept him sidelined for 12 games thus far, the Finnish winger racked up 12 points in nine games and seemed on pace for a third straight 80-plus point campaign.

Rantanen (lower body) skated by himself before Monday's practice with a non-contact jersey, Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen took his next step in recovery by getting back onto the frozen sheet, but he'll still need to absorb contact before having a chance at returning to the lineup. The 22-year-old was off to a hot start before his injury, registering five goals and 12 points over nine games. It's not out of the question for Rantanen to return in the next week or two.

Rantanen (lower body) has been placed on IR, per the NHL's official media site.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen is considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury, so this move was expected. Coach Jared Bednar is hoping the star winger won't require 4-6 weeks to recover, but at this point the Avalanche are going to have to wait and see how he responds to treatment before pinpointing an expected return date. Andre Burakovsky may get an opportunity to skate on Colorado's lethal first line while Rantanen is sidelined.

Coach Jared Bednar said Rantanen is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.
EDGE Analysis
It's fairly clear that Rantanen is dealing with a leg injury after a video revealed his leg bending awkwardly in Monday's loss to the Blues. According to Marc Moser of Altitude Sports 950, Bednar doesn't believe this will require a 4-6 week recovery time, but the Avalanche will continue to evaluate how Rantanen responds to treatment. The 22-year-old's essentially ruled out until at least Oct. 30's game against the Panthers, although that feels like an aggressive timeline. Expect Rantanen to be placed on injured reserve before Friday's game against the Golden Knights.

Rantanen (lower body) will get an MRI Tuesday, Adrian Dater of ColoradoHockeyNow.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen left Monday's game in St. Louis after his leg appeared to give out. A better timetable for his return should be available after further testing.

Rantanen (lower body) left Monday's game and won't return, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen was backchecking during the second period when his skate caught the ice and bent his ankle back. The Finn immediately hit the ice and was taken back to the locker room for additional testing. The 22-year-old has racked up 11 points in eight games so far this season, so expect the team to monitor its star closely while updating his status following the game or in the coming days. When and if he's sidelined, look for Andre Burakovsky to jump up to the first line, with Colin Wilson seeing some power-play time.

Rantanen scored a power-play goal and added two assists in Monday's 6-3 win over the Capitals.
EDGE Analysis
The Finnish winger set up Nikita Zadorov's tally in the first period and capped the four-goal frame with a power-play marker as well. Rantanen then set up Nathan MacKinnon's empty-netter to ice the result. Rantanen has recorded four goals and five helpers over a season-opening five game point streak. He's showing no rust from his extended contract holdout that cost him the entire preseason.

Rantanen had a power-play goal and an assist along with a pair of shots on goal in Colorado's 4-2 win over Minnesota on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
It was the second two-point performance in as many games this season for the 22-year-old, who had scored two goals in the season opener against Calgary. Rantanen has increased his goal-scoring and point production in each of his first three full seasons in the NHL, including last year's 31-goal, 87-point campaign. The future is now for the 2015 first-rounder.

Rantanen scored two goals -- one on the power play -- and added five shots on goal in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Flames.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen missed all of training camp while negotiating his new six-year contract, but he showed no rust with the pair of tallies while skating 18:30 in the game. Rantanen's first line deployment with Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog should continue to be fruitful both on the ice and in the fantasy realm.

Rantanen will play in Thursday's season opener versus the Flames, A.J. Haefele of TheDNVR.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rantanen's contract holdout ended Saturday after he agreed to a six-year contract with $9.25 million AAV, and he'll be ready for action right away despite suffering a broken leg during Colorado's second round of playoffs. The 22-year-old winger will skate with the top line alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog. He thrived in that role last year, racking up 31 goals and 87 points -- 33 on the power play -- through 74 games, and he carried that momentum into the postseason with 14 points over 12 playoff contests. Rantanen projects for a similar output this year.
