Zalewski signed a contract with Straubing of DEL-Germany on Monday, TSN reports.

The New York native defied the odds by cracking the Canucks roster as an undrafted free agent back in 2013-14, but he'd appear in just six total NHL games sprinkled over the last three seasons. Even if he eventually jumps back to the North American stage, It goes without saying that Zalewski can be ignored in any fantasy format.

Zalewski was sent down to AHL Utica on Monday.

Vancouver placed Chris Tanev (undisclosed) on injured reserve in a corresponding move Thursday, indicating Zalewski may be in line for an extended stay with the Canucks. The 24-year-old winger appeared in three games with Vancouver last season, tallying a single assist and two shots on goal over that span, and will likely slot into a bottom-six role if he's able to crack the lineup during his stay with the big club.

The 22-year-old received a cup of coffee with the Canucks toward the end of last season and could be in store for a longer stay with the parent club in the second half of 2014-15.

Mike Zalewski has agreed to a two-year, two-way deal with Vancouver. Zalewski will come with a $925,000 annual cap hit at the NHL level. Zalewski had 26 points and 53 penalty minutes in 35 NCAA games last season. He also had an assist in two contests with the Vancouver Canucks. He'll probably start the 2014-15 campaign in the minors, but he's worth keeping an eye on.
