Mike Smith (knee) is unlikely to play on Sunday. Smith has been out three weeks and it coincided with the Coyotes current seven game losing streak that knocked them out of the playoffs. "I've had that injury before and for a skater or a guy out, you might be able to get away with it," coach Dave Tippett said. "But he's been practicing with a brace on, and he looks normal in there. But there's a couple movements he can't do, and I know where that comes from. It just grabs you and bites you. You can't get in the game and function that way and especially in that position. A forward might be able to get away with it. A goalie you're not going to get away with it." Smith will finish the season with a 27-21-10 record to go with a 2.64 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Look for Smith to improve on those numbers next season.

Mike Smith (leg) took part in Wednesday's practice, but he appeared to leave the ice in frustration. Smith's availability for Thursday's game is still in doubt. If he's frustrated, that would be understandable given that the Coyotes are in a tight race against the Dallas Stars for the final Wild Card spot while he's forced to allow his leg to heal.

Mike Smith (leg) participated in a full practice on Monday. This is good news for the Coyotes as they have lost their last four games and while has been out two weeks, Phoenix has slipped out of the playoffs. He is questionable for Tuesday's game but with three games remaining after that, Smith could find himself back between the pipes this week.

Mike Smith (lower body) will be re-evaluated in one week. Coach Dave Tippett said that Smith's lower-body injury isn't as serious the team originally thought. Thomas Greiss will continue to fill in during Smith's absence.

The Coyotes aren't prepared to issue a timetable for Mike Smith (leg) until Friday. Smith will see doctors in Phoenix at that time. He was forced to leave Monday's game with a leg injury and is currently being labeled as day-to-day. "Until doctor (Gary) Waslewski and our medical staff get their hands on Mike, we won't have a clear idea," general manager Don Maloney said. "The encouraging thing is he is feeling much better today than he was yesterday. It's all trending positively."

Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith was forced to leave Monday's game against the Rangers with what appears to be a right leg injury. Smith's leg seemed to have been landed on by the Rangers' Derick Brassard, causing the netminder to immediately begin favoring it. Smith was unable to put any weight on the leg as he departed the ice. Thomas Griess entered the game to take his place.

Mike Smith has been red hot the last seven weeks. Since February 1st, Smith has posted a 1.86 goals against average and a .937 save percentage over 15 games. Both marks rank second amongst all NHL goalies who have played in at least 10 games over that period of time. For those of you who were patient with Smith while he was struggling early in the season, you are being rewarded now.

Mike Smith lost for the first time in four games Saturday night as the Coyotes dropped a 4-2 decision to Boston. Smith allowed three goals on 27 shots in the defeat, but he can be forgiven for the result as the Bruins are easily the hottest team in the NHL. His record drops to 27-21-10 while his GAA is 2.65 and his save percentage is .915.
