The 35-year-old hasn't been sharp lately, notching a .900 save percentage and 3.29 GAA in his last four games, picking up a loss in each of those contest. Sunday he will face off against a Los Angeles squad that ranks 26th in the league with 2.40 goals per game, so he will get a bounce-back opportunity against a struggling offensive team.

Smith will be on the bench as the backup for Friday's matchup with Washington as he continues to recover from an illness.

Smith was on the bench for Wednesday's contest as well, although that may have been a scheduled off night based on the Yotes' usual goaltending pattern. Once healthy, the netminder will likely resume his role as the No. 1, but with his recent run of form -- 0-5-1 in his last six with a 3.16 GAA -- you could certainly understand if coach Dave Tippett wanted to give Louis Domingue an extended look.

The Blues are averaging a mere 28.1 shots per game -- fourth fewest in the league -- which means the veteran should face a slightly diminished workload Monday.

Smith allowed three goals on 32 shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss against the Capitals.

Smith has allowed three or fewer goals in seven of his past nine appearances. Unfortunately, Arizona's offense has provided him with a grand total of three goals over the past four appearances. He is playing well and deserves a much better fate.

It's not a favorable fantasy scenario.
