Smith is on track to start between the pipes in Wednesday's home opener versus Vancouver, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was fantastic last season, going 21-6-2 while posting an impressive 2.31 GAA and .923 save percentage in 32 appearances. The 39-year-old vet will attempt to pick up his first victory of the 2021-22 campaign in a home matchup with a Canucks club that averaged 2.54 goals per game on the road last season, 21st in the NHL.

Smith (illness) will patrol the home crease during Thursday's preseason clash with the Canucks.
EDGE Analysis
Smith wasn't able to start Monday's preseason game versus Calgary due to an illness, so he'll get between the pipes for Thursday's contest instead. The 39-year-old netminder is set to enter the regular season as Edmonton's No. 1 netminder with Mikko Koskinen serving as his backup.

Smith exited Sunday's practice early because he wasn't feeling well, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was slated to start in goal in Monday's preseason game versus Calgary, but the Oilers may be forced to go with someone else in net if the veteran netminder still isn't feeling well prior to puck drop. Confirmation on Smith's status should surface before play gets underway against the Flames.

Smith is slated to start in goal at home in Tuesday's preseason matchup with the Kraken, Bob Stauffer of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith will likely play a portion of Tuesday's game before being replaced by Mikko Koskinen for the remainder of the contest. Despite being 39 years of age, Smith should see the majority of the starts in goal for the Oilers this season after going 21-6-2 while posting an impressive 2.31 GAA and .923 save percentage in 32 appearances last campaign.

Smith agreed to terms on a two-year, $4.4 million pact with Edmonton on Thursday, Jason Gregor of OilersNation.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith is coming off a solid regular season in which he went 21-6-2 with three shutouts, a 2.31 GAA and .923 save percentage in 32 appearances. Unfortunately, the veteran netminder flopped in the playoffs, getting swept by Winnipeg while posting a .912 save percentage. Heading into the upcoming season, Smith should continue to see the bulk of the workload but may have to share some of the starts with Mikko Koskinen and/or Alex Stalock.

Smith allowed four goals on 43 shots in Monday's 4-3 loss to Winnipeg in Game 4.
EDGE Analysis
After allowing five goals in Game 3, Smith had another tough regulation for the Oilers but was fabulous in overtime, stopping Nikolaj Ehlers in close late in the first OT. Unfortunately for Smith, a Kyle Connor breakaway in the third overtime snuck past the 39-year-old and eliminated the Oilers. The Kingston native allowed 12 goals in series, including three in overtime, and is a pending UFA this offseason.

Smith will start Monday's Game 4 in Winnipeg, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Starting a 39-year-old goaltender for the second time in as many nights with the season on the line isn't an ideal scenario for the Oilers, but they don't have much of a choice given how shaky backup Mikko Koskinen looked down the stretch. Smith imploded late in Game 3 as the Oilers blew a 4-1 third-period lead and suffered a third consecutive loss at the hands of the Jets, but Smith will need to put that disappointment behind him quickly and refocus for this elimination game.

Smith surrendered five goals on 37 shots in Sunday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Jets in Game 3.
EDGE Analysis
The Oilers should have had this game after Jujhar Khaira put them ahead 4-1 early in the third period. Instead, they fell apart over the final 10 minutes of regulation, and Smith was unable to hang onto the lead. A set play off a faceoff in overtime led to Nikolaj Ehlers completing the Jets' comeback and Smith taking his third straight loss in the playoffs. Smith can't blame a lack of offense in Game 3, but now the Oilers will have to pull off a reverse sweep if they're to advance, starting with Monday's Game 4. A starting goalie for that contest has yet to be named.

Smith will start Sunday's Game 3 in Winnipeg, Paul Gazzola of the Oilers' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has stopped 53 of 56 shots through two games, but the Oilers find themselves in a 2-0 series hole due to an inability to solve Connor Hellebuyck at the other end. All Smith can do is keep holding up his end of the bargain and hope Connor McDavid and company get finally get going in front of him.

Smith made 35 saves on 36 shots in Friday's 1-0 overtime loss to the Jets in Game 2.
EDGE Analysis
Smith carried a shutout through regulation, but he was beat on Paul Stastny's goal 4:06 into overtime. The 39-year-old Smith has played well in the first two games of the series, allowing just three goals on 56 shots, but the Oilers have only mustered one goal of support. He'll likely get another starting nod for Sunday's Game 3 in Winnipeg.
