Mike Richards was only on the ice for 9:50 minutes in the Kings' 4-3 loss to Anaheim on Monday. Richards had a minus-two rating, which drops him to a team-worst minus-five. He also has just three points in 12 playoff contests in 2014. He might not be the Kings' biggest offensive threat, but he is certainly supposed to be one of their primary contributors and he hasn't been able to do that in the postseason.

Los Angeles Kings coach Darryl Sutter played around with his lines in Game 4 of the team's second-round playoff series against the Anaheim Ducks. The shuffling placed Mike Richards between Tanner Pearson and Jeff Carter. "I thought that was a good line for us. They created multiple scoring opportunities and did a good job against whoever they were on the ice against." The trio could be line to start Game 5 together as well on Monday night.

Mike Richards felt the Ducks played harder than the Kings in Game 3 on Thursday. Anaheim earned a 3-2 victory over Los Angeles as a result. "They were a desperate team, and they showed up," Richards said. "We know what it is like to be in that position, and if the other team is more desperate than we are, they're probably going to have more success." Richards scored his first goal of the playoffs on Thursday, which at least gives him something to build off of.

Mike Richards doesn't want to get frustrated with his lack of offensive production in the playoffs. Richards has no goals and just two assists in nine playoff games. "Obviously you want to contribute with scoring goals, but at the same time we're winning hockey games right now, and have to just keep doing the same things to do to help the team," Richards said. The Kings are on a six-game winning streak, which includes the first two contests of the second round. His lack of offensive production in the playoffs is the exception rather than the rule. He has 23 goals and 79 points in 107 career postseason games.

Mike Richards is the only player in NHL history to win two playoff series after falling behind 3-0. Richards was part of the 2010 Philadelphia Flyers and now 2014 Los Angeles Kings. Technically, so was Jeff Carter, but the difference is that Carter didn't participate in the 2010 Flyers series due to an injury.

Mike Richards earned his first point of the playoffs on Thursday. Richards assisted on Justin Williams' power-play goal early in the second period. He was a big contributor in the Kings' first two playoff runs and with Los Angeles down 3-1 in its series against the Sharks, the Kings really need him to step up now.

Now that the Kings are down 3-0 to San Jose in their first round series, Los Angeles will probably turn to Mike Richards and Jeff Carter for advice. Only three teams in NHL history have successfully come back from a 3-0 series deficit, but one of those teams were the 2010 Philadelphia Flyers. At the time, Carter and Richards were key members of that squad, so their presence alone is proof to their teammates that it's possible.

Mike Richards picked up a double minor on Sunday for spearing the Sharks Logan Couture with less than six minutes left in the third period. The game was long over by then as the Kings trailed 7-2. The NHL could look at the incident but it will likely involve a fine rather than a suspension as that is what Milan Lucic of the Bruins received. It was Richards 100th playoff game of his career.

Coach Darryl Sutter is expecting to see a different Mike Richards in the postseason. "Mike Richards is our most experienced forward in terms of playoffs, and he always plays his best when we expect him to," said Sutter. Richards is hoping to take advantage of the intensity of the postseason after an unproductive regular season.

Mike Richards ended the season without a point in his last nine games and without an assist in his last 22 contests. That is pretty bad, even if Richards was a defensive defenseman and not a good scorer in the NHL. He ends the season down in every category as he had only 11 goals and 41 points with a minus-six rating and only 28 penalty minutes. It was not a good season for Richards.
