Mike Modano has been selected as part of the 2014 Hockey Hall of Fame class.
Modano was never the most dominant player in the league. He only finished in the top-10 in the NHL scoring race three times and he never finished higher than eighth. However, he managed to record at least 70 points in all but four seasons from 1989-90 through 2005-06. It was that level of consistency that allowed him to finish with an incredible 1,374 points in 1,499 games, which is good for 23rd place on the all-time points list. He also won the Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999.

The Dallas Stars will retire Mike Modano's number nine in a ceremony Saturday night.
They will raise his jersey to the rafters in a ceremony prior to the Stars' game against Minnesota. Modano is arguably the best American foward to ever play in the NHL. He leads all U.S. scorers in career points with 1374, 1359 of which came as a Star. That total puts him first on the Stars' all-time scoring list and almost 500 points better than Neal Broten, who is second. A well deserved honor for a beloved hockey player in Texas.

Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff would be open to the idea of Mike Modano coming out of retirement to play for his team.
"I think that's something you have to evaluate," Ruff said. "There is lots of examples of players in that category that have come back and played as long as the player in that category pays attention to his fitness level and has an elite level of conditioning, which I've seen players that get to that point. They can be effective players in today's game, and that's whether the legs underneath you can still carry you to the places you need to go on the ice." Modano is 43 and hasn't played since 2010-11, so a comeback seems very unlikely.

Mike Modano likes the Dallas Stars' decision to select Jim Nill as the team's new general manager.
Nill was formerly an assistant GM with the Detroit Red Wings. "Jim Nill has been sought after for a long time from a number of teams in the league," Modano said. "How we got him to agree to come to Dallas, no one really knows. I think he was excited about the opportunity to start fresh somewhere else. He's one of the masterminds behind the Wings for 25 years, him and Kenny Holland. He knows everything about the game." Modano is also excited to see his jersey get retired.

Mike Modano was one of three people enshrined in the United States Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday.
Modano entered the Hall alongside Ed Olczyk and Lou Lamoriello Monday in Dallas. Modano was instrumental in hockey taking off in Dallas, so much so that locals Stefan Noesen was a first round pick in 2011 (Ottawa) and defenseman Seth Jones is expected to go first or second in June. Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr were expected at the ceremony, but both sent regrets that they could not make it on Monday, so hopefully the meeting on Tuesday in Toronto will be an important one.

Mike Modano blames both Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr for the current NHL lockout.
"I think what frustrated a lot of the (players) in the union was the dragging of the feet on both sides," said Modano. "Not talking for two or three weeks at a time.I think the urgency of getting something done was just not taken too serious. Everybody on both sides was just waiting for the other one to flinch." Modano previously stated that the 2004-05 lockout wasn't worth it "in hindsight." The current lockout is approaching a week old.
