Mike Grier has officially announced his retirement.
The 14-year veteran suited up in 1,060 career games with Edmonton, Washington, San Jose and Buffalo. He compiled 162 goals and 383 points during that time, but he will probably be remembered more for his tireless work ethic and his leadership qualities. "I was very fortunate to be able to play 14 seasons in the NHL with some great players," said Grier. "The memories and friendships that I have built during my time in the league will last a lifetime. I would like to thank my former teammates, family and fans for helping make my career so memorable for me. It was a great ride, and I am now excited and looking forward to my post-playing future." We wish him the best.

Buffalo GM Darcy Regier said he has held some discussions Mike Grier on a new contract.
However, he added that the Sabres won't be signing anyone right now because of salary cap issues. Grier, who is currently an unrestricted free agent, has some interest in coming back but he may also call it a career.
