Quietly, Michael Stone of the Phoenix Coyotes is emerging as one of the top goal-scoring defensemen in the NHL.
Among NHL defensemen, Stone now ranks tied for second with those six goals. Only Ottawa's Erik Karlsson has scored more (seven). "It's mostly a confidence thing," Stone said when asked to explain his scoring tear this season. "I've been able to be an offensive player mostly at every level I've played at, so I think it's just continuing to build that."

Michael Stone scored his sixth goal of the season and third in his last two games on Saturday.
The defenseman has yet to get an assist this season but has been a pleasant surprise for his fantasy owners. His goal was on the power play and was his second power play goal in 15 games this season. With four goals in his last five games as well, he is going to be tough to ignore on the waiver wire.

Michael Stone netted his first goal of the season on Thursday.
Stone was playing in just his second game of the season. He had five goals and nine points in 40 contests in 2013. He's worth keeping an eye on because he does have some offensive upside despite those numbers, but we can't recommend owning him in standard leagues at this time.

The Phoenix Coyotes expect Michael Stone to continue to grow this season.
"He plays all situations," coach Dave Tippett said. "He's played some power play for us. He's a shot-blocker on the penalty kill. He's a player I really feel will take a step forward this year. We're looking for big things from him. He reminds me of a younger Adrian Aucoin. The way he plays the game, a right-handed shot, smart player who plays well positionally -- just a solid all-around player." In 40 games last season, Stone generated nine points, 89 hits, 64 blocks and a plus-2 rating.
