McCarron scored the Canadiens lone goal in Tuesday night's preseason opener against the Maple Leafs. He was also used on the penalty kill, and won five of 10 faceoffs.
EDGE Analysis
McCarron, who is lining up at center this season, can use his size and strength to his advantage, but his skating is still a little choppy.

McCarron was moved from practice Team B to Team A for Monday's session, the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCarrron was elevated to the top group due to injuries to Alexander Semin (foot) and David Desharnais (lower body), both of whom are day-to-day. The 6-foot-6, 231-pound McCarron is being considered for a spot on the roster, but is likely to open the season at St. John's of the American Hockey League.

McCarron, who was drafted as a right-winger, made the shift to center last season in juniors and is expected to play the pivot for AHL St. John's this season, the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
It never hurts to add some versatility, but it remains to be seen if McCarron, the Canadiens' first-round draft pick in 2013, will stay at center in the NHL. He's ostensibly competing for a spot on the NHL roster, but is expected to start the season in the AHL, where he can work on his foot speed and improve using his hands in close.

McCarron has received an invitation to Team USA's final selection camp for the World Junior Hockey Champsionship, the Montreal Gazette reports.
McCarron's invite is a no-brainer. He's scored 13 goals with 13 assists and is plus-10 in 17 games for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. Drafted in 2013 with a eye toward being a power forward, McCarron's slimmed down since draft night and has made the move to center. He's skating better and improved his commitment to the game.

McCarron is off to a terrific start for London (OHL) with 19 points in his first 11 games.
McCarron missed London's first seven games due to a shoulder injury that he suffered in preseason but he's been on fire since he returned. It's a great sign for a player who struggled to the tune of just 14 goals and 34 points in 66 games in his first OHL season. McCarron was so bad last season that he didn't find himself on the list of our top 100 prospects to begin the season. That seems awful likely to change when the rankings are updated in mid-to-late December.

McCarron (shoulder) has been ruled out for six weeks, John Lu of TSN Montreal reports.
The 2013 first-rounder will have his second season with the OHL's London Knights get off to a delayed start as a result of the injury. While McCarron's development shouldn't be dramatically stalled, it's obviously won't help his chances of reaching Montreal anytime soon. The 19-year-old tallied 14 goals, 20 assists and 120 penalty minutes in 66 games with London in 2013-14.
