The Columbus Blue Jackets have called up Michael Chaput on an emergency basis. Chaput is the Blue Jackets' insurance policy in case Ryan Johansen (lower body) can't play Tuesday. Chaput has 28 points and 51 penalty minutes in 67 AHL games this season.

Michael Chaput scored and assisted to fuel Springfield's 5-4 win over Bridgeport Sound on Friday night. In his first AHL season, Chaput has really struggled with just eight points in 28 games. Cam Atkinson notched two assists to up his point total to 37.

In case you missed it, Columbus prospect Michael Chaput guided the Shawinigan Cataractes to a Memorial Cup championship victory on Sunday. He was named the MVP of the tournament and he captured the top scorer award as well. Chaput picked up five goals and seven assists in six games to take home plenty of hardware on junior hockey's biggest stage. He had a point in each contest and recorded four multi-point games. Chaput concluded the QMJHL regular season with 63 points in 57 games and he added another 12 points over 11 games in the playoffs. He was originally drafted in the third round of the 2010 draft by Philadelphia, but was acquired by Columbus back in February of 2011, along with Greg Moore, in exchange for Tom Sestito.

Michael Chaput has agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus got the rights to Chaput from Philadelphia as part of the Tom Sestito trade. He had 21 goals and 63 points in 57 QMJHL games this season.
