Finger surgery will keep Matt Cullen from playing in Minnesota's final seven games.

Center Matt Cullen wouldn't go as far as to say his season is over after breaking his right index finger Saturday in Buffalo, but "time's getting short."
Cullen, who watched Sunday's game in Washington while wearing a splint, will be examined by Wild doctors Monday to find out the severity of the fracture and a timeline. With 4 1/2 minutes left Saturday and the Wild down by a goal, he tried to knock down Christian Ehrhoff's shot so he could take off on transition. He knew right away he broke it. "It's just a fluky thing," Cullen said. "You block a lot of shots through the course of the season, and that one wasn't particularly hard. It just happened to find the right spot, and it breaks the bone." Cullen, 35, who has 14 goals and 35 points in 73 games, was born in Virginia, Minn., and grew up in Moorhead. Two years into a three-year deal, missing the playoffs both years is not the way Cullen envisioned his homecoming. "It's especially disappointing the way things started off so promising [this season]," he said.

Matt Cullen will likely miss the rest of the season after sustained a broken finger in Minnesota's 3-1 loss to Buffalo Saturday night.
He blocked a shot by the Sabres' Christian Ehrhoff with only minutes left in the game which shattered his right index finger. The Wild will recall Charlie Rau on Sunday to take Cullen's place in the lineup. Don't expect anything from Cullen from here on in.

Matt Cullen was moved to the blueline Thursday when the Minnesota Wild were decimated by injury on defense.
Jared Spurgeon, Marco Scandella and Steven Kampfer were all out of action late in the third as the Wild were down to three defensemen. "Don't get beat," Cullen laughed when asked what assistant coach Rick Wilson said before putting him on the blueline. "Fortunately I wasn't put in too many tough spots." The Wild got Kampfer back shortly after that. Look for Kurtis Foster to draw back in the lineup on the weekend.

The Minnesota Wild gave Matt Cullen (knee) a maintenance day off Sunday.
Cullen is considered probable for Monday's game against Vancouver. He was kneed by Brenden Morrow but should be in the lineup. Activate him if you normally would.

Matt Cullen seems to be dealing with a knee injury.
The good news is that he skated Friday. The bad news is that he questionable for Saturday afternoon's game against Phoenix. Don't take a chance by rostering him. Surely you must have other equally mediocre lineup options available to you.

Matt Cullen scored his 14th goal of the season in a 4-3 comeback win over San Jose Sunday.
The streaky veteran recently went 15 games without finding the back of the net, but he has now counted three times in four games since then. Cal Clutterbuck, Nick Schultz and Jed Ortmeyer also scored goals in the win.

Matt Cullen scored a power-play goal to help the Minnesota Wild beat the Boston Bruins 2-0.
That goal marked Cullen's first goal or assist of February. The two-way center finished January with four points in a three-game span, but it's obvious that he's not the type to be a steady producer - particularly in Minnesota's modest offense.

The Minnesota Wild did not received any secondary scoring during the current four game homestand.
The Wild scored seven times during the four games with the top line of Dany Heatley, Mikko Koivu and Devin Setoguchi potting all the goals. Matt Cullen has gone 14 games without a goal and the Wild need him to start going if they ever are to have a chance to make the post season.
