Mathieu Perreault seems to have earned his spot on Washington's opening roster. He earned praise from coach Bruce Boudreau following Sunday's preseason finale against Chicago as the team's best player at camp. "Played with energy every night and I think he was very similar last year but we'll sit down tomorrow and discuss all of this," said the Capitals bench boss. Perreault led the team in preseason scoring with five points (three goals, two assists) and he got the opportunity to play alongside Alex Ovechkin and Troy Brouwer on Sunday. However, where he will play if he makes the team is uncertain at this time.

Mathieu Perreault is trying to play his way onto the Capitals' starting roster for this season. He notched a goal and an assist in Monday's 3-1 win over Columbus, but understands that his consistency at the NHL level needs to be better to stick with the big club in 2011-12. "They know what I'm capable of doing," said Perreault, who tallied 14 points in 35 appearances last year . "It's just a matter of doing it every night." Cody Eakin, Chris Bourque and Mattias Sjogren are also in the mix for Washington's vacant spot up front.

Mathieu Perreault has agreed to a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals. The Capitals declined to reveal the financial terms of the deal. Perreault had 14 points and 20 penalty minutes in 35 games with Washington last season.
