Skapski was cut from the Rangers' training camp roster and sent to AHL Hartford, the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
This was always going to happen, as Skapski is at best the Rangers' fourth-string goalie. Still just 22, he's coming off a rough year split between the AHL and ECHL; the B.C. native will need to show improvement in the minors this year to secure an NHL future.

While Skapski will not start in Tuesday's preseason game against the Islanders, he will share the workload with Magnus Hellberg.
EDGE Analysis
Skapski split the 2015-16 campaign between AHL Hartford and ECHL Greenville, but his numbers at both league levels left a lot to be desired. A 3.26 GAA with Greenville was met with a 5-14-5 record, suggesting that he needs much more polish between the pipes.

Skapski (hip) underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to repair a labral tear in his right hip. He's expected to be sidelined 4-to-5 months. The 20-year-old will likely spend the entire offseason rehabbing in hopes of returning around the start of the 2015 season. Skapski made two appearances for the Rangers in 2014-15 but spent the bulk of the season at AHL Harford, where he started 28 games and posted a 2.40 GAA with a .914 save percentage.

Skapski was reassigned to AHL Hartford on Tuesday, Andrew Gross of The Record reports. Skapski's demotion indicates that the Rangers plan to have Henrik Lundqvist (neck) dress during Thursday's game against the Senators, likely as the backup to Cam Talbot. Lundqvist's nearly two-month absence resulted in an extended taste of the NHL for Skapski, but the 20-year-old only appeared in two games. Both of those outings came against the tanking Sabres, during which Skapski cruised to easy victories and delivered a shutout in the second of those two turns. He figures to remain at Hartford for the remainder of the season.

Skapski made 20 saves and recorded his first NHL shutout in a 2-0 win over the Sabres. It's been a meteoric rise for the 20-year-old, sixth-round pick from 2013. He has just 24 games played in the AHL and was pressed into duty as the Rangers' back-up goalie when Henrik Lundqvist went down with injury. His true fantasy future lies a few years in the future, but Saturday will be a story he tells his great-grandchildren.

Skapski has been confirmed as the starter for Saturday's game against the Sabres, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. The Sabres have lost all four of their games since the trade deadline to drop to a league-worst 19-42-6, making Skapski an enticing option for the Saturday slate. Skapski's only previous NHL appearance came Feb. 20 against the Sabres, who he denied on 24 of 25 shot attempts to cruise to the win column. Expect the playoff-bound Rangers to come through in decisive fashion Saturday.

Skapski is expected to draw the start in goal Saturday against the Sabres, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports. The Rangers are set to play a back-to-back set over the weekend, and with Cam Talbot in need of a breather, Skapski will draw the easier matchup of the two games. Incidentally, Skapski started against the Sabres in his only other NHL appearance, turning away 24 of 25 shots in an easy victory back on Feb. 20. The Sabres, who own the NHL's worst record, have sunk even further since that time after dealing away several assets at the trade deadline, making Skapski a superb streaming option if he ends up receiving the nod Saturday.

Skapski made his NHL debut Friday, stopping 24 of 25 shots in a win over Buffalo.Skapski finally got his shot Friday, and he didn't disappoint, shutting the door on the Sabres after allowing the opening goal just 14 seconds in. The 20-year-old is currently backing up Cam Talbot while starter Henrik Lundqvist (throat) remains out. While Skapski won't provide much fantasy value right now, the youngster is one to watch in the future. He could see a few more starts for the Rangers while Lundqvist remains out.

Skapski was recalled from AHL Hartford on Wednesday, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports. The Rangers ruled regular netminder Henrik Lundqvist out of Wednesday's match with the Bruins due to an issue related to his throat, requiring the Rangers to recall Skapski as an extra goalie. Skapski will back up Cam Talbot for Wednesday's game and doesn't seem likely to see any time during his stay with the Rangers, unless Lundqvist's injury proves to be a long-term concern.
