The Devils have warmed up lately with three straight wins, scoring 13 goals in that span, so it could be a tough matchup for Ullmark to get himself back on track.

He also has a 2.71 GAA and a .917 save percentage in 2023-24. Those ratios aren't bad, but they are nowhere near his stellar 1.89 GAA and .938 save percentage from last year. Ullmark has allowed at least three goals in each of his last three appearances and four of his past five outings, so he's working through some adversity. Boston typically rotates between its goaltenders, making Jeremy Swayman the likely starter for Wednesday's road game versus New Jersey.

John-Jason Peterka beat Ullmark clean top corner from behind the the left circle early in the second period to open the scoring. And Ullmark had no chance on Tage Thompson's rocket one-timer from the high slot late in the second that made it 2-0. Victor Olofsson completed a 2-on-1 rush at 11:16 of the third to push the score to 3-1. Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman are in a straight platoon and both look good, although the latter has a bit of a statistical edge. Still, they both play behind one of the NHL's best teams, and that means that Ullmark remains an auto-start whenever he's in the blue paint.

The Sabres are 25th in NHL scoring this season, averaging 2.85 goals per game, a huge dip from last season when they averaged 3.57 goals per contest, third best in the league.
